Ran 12's My First Time Ever at a Drag Strip - Stock

Went to the drag strip today for the first time ever and I was completely blown away by my results. My first ever run was in the 12's with a bone stock 7AT. Here's my time slip for the run:

http://www.the370z.com/members/b1ade...ag-strip-d.jpg

Everything just went perfect that time. Launch was good, shifting (with paddles) was good. It was at Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, MD and the temperature was around 45-50*. Here are my other results for the day:

1st: 12.986 s @ 107.46 mph
2nd: 13.470 s @ 107.71 mph
3rd: 13.216 s @ 106.36 mph
4th: 13.468 s @ 106.83 mph
I have an album posted with the full time slips for each run.

Launching at 1500 RPM seemed to work best, it gave me my 2 best runs of the day. I think I could have done better with a few more runs, but I had to leave.

Congrats, man!!!

b1adesofcha0s 03-12-2011 05:15 PM

Thanks man, I think it was worth skipping lunch at Hooters. It's officially in the sig now

Zrod 03-12-2011 05:18 PM

beginners luck!!!:icon17:j/k nice job especially for a first timer

Jordo! 03-12-2011 05:32 PM

Holy sh!t!

Great run

I can't believe the stock auto is capable of 12's -- awesome!

That might be the best bone stock time.

bboypuertoroc 03-12-2011 07:55 PM

Very, very impressive. Great job.

What shift points were you using?

b1adesofcha0s 03-12-2011 07:59 PM

I was aiming at something between 7000 and 7500 rpm. Not consistent by any means and I couldn't really tell you anything more exact than that. I was too in the moment, lol :)

Thanks guys. I hope with some more practice I can do a little better.

CrownR426 03-12-2011 08:09 PM

Wow!
That is great to hear!
I know Nissan's auto trans are better than their manuals.
Great time good to see that not only the stangs can run 12's stock!
:D :D :D :D :D :D
Just imagine if you had a Supercharger or TT!

b1adesofcha0s 03-12-2011 08:14 PM

OMG I'm so not ready for FI yet, I think that's way too much power for me to handle, I'm still pretty inexperienced when it comes to rwd and sports cars. I've only had one for 2 months. The auto transmission is pretty amazing though. With better tires + messing with tire pressures + a little weight reduction, I could make some real improvements. The track conditions and weather would have to be just as good though.

SwEET!!!! Really whish i ran my car stock....Who has a stock z 6spd they will let be drive????

GZ3 03-12-2011 09:22 PM

Nice man!

ajcool2 03-12-2011 10:45 PM

You did in one run what I've been trying to do for years. Congrats again. Time for some mods so you can run 11's lol.

b1adesofcha0s 03-12-2011 10:51 PM

Looks like you need to get some paddle shifters man, lol just kidding. Trust me man, if I had money for mods, they would already be on my car :)

2ndChance 03-12-2011 11:54 PM

I have a question..

How do you launch the 7AT?

VDC off
Power brake at 1500rpm
Manual shifting mode, shift point near redline

like this?

b1adesofcha0s 03-13-2011 12:25 AM

That's exactly what I did. Found out it worked best at 1500 RPM. I don't know if it's actually called something else, but I feel like launch fits well.

Thomasd 03-13-2011 01:09 AM

Great times! Was there a tail wind?

brian0128 03-13-2011 09:16 AM

Congrats Shahid! It was perfect weather out yesterday and everyone was amazed how well his car launched at the track. I was impressed with the 60ft times especially since it was his first time at the track! For comparison, I ran my Z too which is a 6 speed with Gen3 intakes and I was only able to run a 13.2 @ 106.5mph with a 1.9 60ft time. I did hit the limiter and went through the traps in 3rd instead of 4th but that would have at best given me just a tenth I think. Shahid's car is quick for a factory car and there was no tire pressure adjustment or weight reduction. We got off Rt. 95 North after driving for a few hours with the Mid Atlantic Group, he paid his fee, got right in line, received a 1 minute brief on the staging points(total time from entering gate to his run was less than 5 minutes) and he ran a great time!

brian0128 03-13-2011 09:34 AM

I took a look at my time slip and compared the times to see where his car was faster than mine. We were dead even to the 330ft mark but his car is really strong between the 330 and the 1/8th mile. My 1/8 time was 8.580 @ 82.65mph. I had what I felt was a great run except for hitting the limiter at the top of 3rd but he had me by quite a bit at the 8th mile which was before that happened.

I can't wait to see what happens if he lets some air out of the tires and runs with a cool engine.

Juruki 03-14-2011 10:32 AM

doesnt the 7AT redline every gear if you leave it in full auto? Whats better if you use paddle shifters?

Not too sure about the redline. The ECU adjusts to how your driving and I think It adjusts the shift points for full auto mode based on that. I've seen it shift around 3k rpm under calm driving and higher rpm under spirited driving. Paddle shifters are definitely quicker though.

when you floor an AT it will go up to redline bounce off the limiter and then shift if you don't adjust your throttle. you can make an AT shift by letting up off the gas briefly too but its slower than the paddles. By using the paddle shifters you are removing some of the ecu processing and therefore able to shift faster (I'm pulling that out of my arse but it sounds reasonable to me). I'm really impressed he got a 12.9 stock, when I went, stock, I got a 13.3 but it was in the heat of the summer 90+ degress with 90%+ humidity. I can't imagine cooler weather could make nearly a half second difference for me.

on average 1% hp increase to 10 degrees on ambient difference.

90 ST 03-22-2011 11:02 PM

Are you running stock tires also?

Yeah running the stock Advans that come with the base 18" wheels.

90 ST 03-22-2011 11:14 PM

Damn nice time! I was hoping you were going to say some brand of sticky tires, so i knew which to get next. LOL

b1adesofcha0s 03-22-2011 11:21 PM

Haha, thanks. I think I need to replace my front tires at some point, they're pretty worn out. I've been thinking a little bit about what kind of tires to replace them with. A quick look at tire rack shows that the oem tires are the most expensive for this size. Might go with some Potenza's. Will probably wait as long as I can to replace the tires though.

GZ3 03-23-2011 09:11 AM

^^^ re-11s

A.J@CarbonSignal 03-23-2011 09:23 AM

Good job. I'm sure you can pull lower numbers with some decent DR's.

b1adesofcha0s 03-23-2011 09:44 AM

As far as tires go, I'm trying to get some that are relatively cheap for now since I'm kind of broke. Not too worried about getting drag radials since I won't be hitting the strip that much. I would much rather put that money towards getting some bolt ons. I really just went to see what could do and maybe get a baseline for my future mods.

If I were you I'd spend the money on a good set of tires instead of bolt on mods... they make a huge difference

For me bolt-ons are something I can enjoy on a daily basis since I DD my car. Tires will only be enjoyed on the track or dragstrip. I can have fun sliding around on my current tires, but the extra power/sound from the bolt-ons every time I hit the gas is more fun.

GZ3 03-24-2011 08:57 AM

what are you gonna get first Blade? i say go for hfc/test pipes

b1adesofcha0s 03-24-2011 08:59 AM

The plan is for fast intentions hfc. I gotta work some things out with my school/work schedule for this fall first though. If it works out then I can get it this summer. If not it will be a bday present for me next February.

Red__Zed 04-07-2011 09:28 AM

I guess somehow I missed this thread...

Anyways, those timeslips look photoshopped. I can tell from some of the pixels.

:icon18:

3 people in that one passenger seat is going to be difficult, but if you're ok with it, let's go for it :icon17:

Of course that 500-600 lbs of extra weight won't make any difference in my time at all.

Now that you mention your time, I call :bs: too

( Click to show/hide )
Lol, I'm just kidding :roflpuke2:
