like people mentioned, sa2005 helmets will last you another 4 years so that would be my recommendation. personally i have a g-force pro eliminator in matte black that was around $300. i prefer closed helmets as your windows are down when tracking. as for people that do events with motorcycle helmets, thats bad advice. stick with sa2005 so you dont have any problems down the road whether it's auto-x or hpde.

That's interesting. I've had my helmet checked at all but one event... Maybe that's part of what makes the midwest/east track days so much more expensive.

Yeah, I think the East coast tracks are most strict. It's not worth the risk showing up to an event with an expired helmet only to get sent home.

Always buy a good helmet. As if anything goes wrong and you have an accident. ( hopefully never happens ) How much is your head worth , Its not worth taking a chance of getting a serous head injury.

Expensive != good. Tests have proven that the cheap helmets hold up just as well as the expensive ones. The expensive helmets are lighter, more comfortable, and breath better. If it passes SA2005 then it is good, just don't buy some unknown Chinese brand with a fake sticker

Pyrotect helmets are pretty good. Also HJC helmets. Both of which have very cheap helmet options. We currently just got some SA2010 pyrotect helmets in if anyone is interested:
