Ken Block's new hybrid autocross/drifting event -Gymkhana anyone??
 

There is a new timed competition out there that looks a little like those crazy Ken Block youtube videos. Ken Block is calling it Gymkhana Grid here in the US. They call it just plain old Gymkhana in the rest of the world but we have our own unique flavor that is a bit like a hybrid of heads up drag racing, autocross, and drifting.

Autocross guys, what do you think? Is this a sport for you?

I met with team Bas Koeten Racing from Holland who was at the event in their Methanol powered 350Z. It was a very well prepped car that was built to rally specs and runs on a near stock VQ35DE with an aftermarket fuel system and ECU as the only mods. The kid driving was a 20 years old and is a well accomplished Jr WRC driver.

It would be a fun sport, but not against that level of drivers and cars... :)

What's with people's obsessions with figure 8? Is a hairpin not good enough?

Because it's fun... :)

Looks silly like drifting to me... Maybe I'll change my mind about that some day but I doubt it.

Videos of Ken doing this are pretty neat to look at. As a competition, meh.
