^^ That is awesome man. I am glad someone opened this topic about 1/4 miles times. I am eager to compare the following:

Manual without sport package vs manual with sport package
Auto non sport package vs manual non sport package
Auto with sport package vs Auto without sport packgage
Manual with sport package vs Auto with sport package

Why I care so much? well, there is a big difference when running rear Slip diff, you can cut better 60' times thus run quicker 1/4 mile times. Auto vs Manual? well it seems like the modern autos are killing the manual, looks at the steptronic from BMW and you will see why I am saying it.

Last but not least, I want to compare trap speeds on the 370Z rolling on 18" and 245's vs 19" and 275's, I think the 18" rims package will pull on the hwy on the 19" rim package , very curious to see. If I ever get a 370z I am inclined to get the Auto.

Very nice times man! Thanks for posting them, you are officially the first one on this site to do so as far as I'm aware.

Well I saw a few nice write ups for round track runs but yea I haven't seen anyone else post anything regarding 1/4 mile runs. Hopefully I'll inspire a few others to get theirs out there as well. Thats the beauty of having a warranty. Now I just gotta keep my mods toned down to stay within the parameters of that warranty!

I tend to wait atleast a good 30-45 min between runs with the engine off hood open and platic top off the engine so that it cools down plenty well before my next run. I've seen no oil temp problems thus far or any other issues for that matter. It's a great straight track car if your smart about it!

You should probably leave the engine running for 5-10 minutes to ensure that it cools down evenly and you don't get hot spots. Remember the oil is cooled by the water so if neither is circulating it's not going to cool as well. It's probably not that big a deal at the strip as you're only flat out for a few seconds.

Hey im also in San Antonio and have wanted to hit the track...just that its pretty far (live close to UTSA).

i have a 6spd so it would be a nice comparison, when are you planning on going again?

Sadly I won't actually be in San Antonio until June. Currently I still live in North Carolina for now, but Im moving to San Antonio permanently in June so I just went ahead and put it as my location on my profile. But when i get there I do plan on hitting up the track a bit so I'll get in contact with you on here and we'll set something up.

Track in San Antonio

I went recently to the track in San Antonio and I left my time slip at work. (I also live close to USAA and UTSA)

I remember 60 being a 2.0 and my 1/4 mile time was 13.51 at 106.1mph.

Updated:
Reaction: .4619
60 Ft: 2.0889
330 Ft: 5.8341
1/8 ET: 8.8605
1/8 MPH: 81.79
1000 ET: 11.4154
1000 MPH : N/A
1/4 ET: 13.51
1/4 MPH: 106.1

I have the base sports package with 6MT. When I get the time slip from work, I'll post the rest.

Wow, am I really gonna be the first to come out and say I've tracked the hell outta my Z already? Well I've been smart about it, but last weekend and this weekend I spent 3 different days at the track in my baby!

Last sunday I was still getting use to her and taking it very easy and was running consistant 13.6's with a 13.7 here and there.

Friday night I had a good 7 runs ranging from 13.48 (only once) consistant 13.5's and a few 13.6's thrown in the mix.

Today I took her out to the track again and was putting up 13.4 all day long! I took another 8 runs, 7 of which were in the 13.4's and had one 13.5 flat!

So far Im very pleased with the results, and expected them to get even better next weekend after I take out my spare and jack and other useless crap and lighten her up a little! But those are my straight stock experiences so far! Plus she is still being broken in. I haven't bothered really trying to launch or anything yet. Just revving to about 1.5k RPMs and dumping it on green light. No traction problems whatsoever and putting up consistantly 1.9 -2.0 60ft times! Even had a faster 60ft time than the GTR I ran this past friday! (of course he ran an 11.8 and I ran a 13.48, but I still felt good getting him off the line!)

Best 1/4 mile splits so far:
0.6702 - Reaction
2.0897 - 60 FT
5.7219 - 330 FT
8.6927 - 1/8 ET
83.18 - 1/8 MPH
13.43 - 1/4 ET
103.85 - 1/4 MPH

That is the exact splits of my best time so far. I've had a few faster 60 FT times but my 1/4 was a tad higher in the 13.4s still.

I am running the base model 7 AT also. I'd really love to see what someones stock results are in a MT base model with a similar start to mine. Not revving higher than 1.5k to launch. It'd really be interesting to see!

I will post more times next weekend after I install my Stillen dual cold air intakes and take out my spare and what not! Enjoy!!!

Are you using full automatic, or the paddle shifters?

Paddle shifting of course! I don't think you could better than a 13.8 with just straight up auto. It's a bit more laid back when in normal "D" mode than when paddle shifting. Paddle shifting is very smooth and very responsive, I definately have been happy with it thus far.

Also a quick update, went back to the track yesterday. Thursday night I installed the Stillen G3 Cold Air Intakes. The ECU is still adjusting to the new intakes, but here is my best time of the day yesterday with the new intakes!

2.0251 - 60 FT
5.6484 - 330 FT
8.5852 - 1/8 ET
84.30 - 1/8 MPH
13.26 - 1/4 ET
105.46 - 1/4 MPH

I definately feel the car can put up even better times than this with the new intakes! Just gotta give it till next weekend most likely when the ECU has fully adjusted. Im hoping to see times in the high 13.1's from just the intake. I shoulda had a better 1/4 mile time than that yesterday but I had gotten online after some real "drag" cars and the track was still only recording 1/8th times so thats all I got, but it was an 8.51 1/8 ET so Im guessing it would have been a low 13.2 time most likely. We will see come next weekend and I'll have times posted soon as I get em!

Just curious what you're shifting at, Redline (7500)? What rpm are you launching at (nevermind i just saw your launching at 1500)? Any traction problems (nevermind i just saw you said no traction problems)? Last question, do you have the sport package?

Thanks,

Thanks,

I went with just the base package. Didn't like the 19 in rims on the sport or most of the other stuff just wasn't worth it to me!
As for shifting I shift at just over 7k RPMs. No point in waiting for redline when our power peaks at 7k! Just my opinion tho...

ZforMe 04-13-2009 02:16 PM

Do you run with traction control on or off? I'm gonna race tomorrow night and am trying to get some pointers before I go. I too have the auto.

The reason you let it rev a little past peak is because you will get more power when you hit the next gear because you will land at a higher RPM. Also if you've looked at the dyno plot the power doesn't really fall off much past peak so still more power than the next gear is going to have, plus the next gear will have a lower gear multiplier which means less power to ground.

In fairness though, the 7AT has even closer ratios than the manual so there is probably less benefit to revving the crap out of it.
