Wheel hop vs wheel spin

What causes wheel to hop vs spin? On my street tires, I would get wheel spin. When I go to my R comps (much smaller in diameter), my rear end would just start hopping. Is it because of the stiff sidewall on the R comps?

What type/brand size R-Comp Tires are you using?

285/30/18 Pirelli Corsa, they are small. They are past their prime, but I got an awful mount of wheel hop in 1st gear with them. I never really got any with my RE11.

The tire is currently getting soaked in Formula V, maybe it will get softer

Try running higher pressures in the rear. If that doesnt help make sure you just launch softer, wheel hop is the easiest way to destroy your drivetrain.

There is really no way to get around it, car would hop in 2nd gear. I am soaking the tire in formula V now, see if that would help.
