So I was looking for my old Passport G-Meter that I lost earlier today and figured I should just start looking for one on my Droid X. The accelerometer is probably just as accurate if not more, plus it can also use GPS to determine speed and acceleration. Long story short found a program called Dynomaster and it is pretty neat. Also had another program called Trackmaster, which I got for the track event I have coming up this weekend.
It also creates a clickable overlay on Google Earth that shows you whether you were accelerating/decel, your speed at that point, etc... Creates a Dyno chart based on how quickly you were accelerating, all of these things exportable to Google Earth, Excel, or a JPEG. I ran a couple of quarter mile runs in my half mile long driveway and had the following results: Run #1: 60': 22.44mph @ 2.24 seconds 1/8: 85.14mph @ 8.76 seconds 1/4: 99.37mph @ 13.65 seconds 0-60: 5.15 seconds Max RWHP: 316 Max Flywheel HP: 380 Run #2: 60': 24.52mph @ 2.11 seconds 1/8: 87.36mph @ 8.52 seconds 1/4: 106.72mph @ 13.19 seconds 0-60: 4.95 seconds Max RWHP: 320 Max Flywheel HP: 385 Obviously the Flywheel # is based on assumed drivetrain loss, which I had at 17% since most people are baselining around 275~ hp at the wheels vs 332. The numbers aren't perfect for those things, but I wouldn't be surprised to find the 1/8 & 1/4 mile times, 0-60, 60', and trap speeds are within 97-99% accurate due to GPS vs Accelerometer data. Most of the error even possible is the phone not being locked down properly, but overall pretty easy to set up and WAY better than some of the programs I have tried for iPhone 4, or the other Droid programs. Excited to see how the track one does. That one (as well as this one) will speak your times to you as you cross the finish line which I think is sweeeet.
