Default Tracking a Roadster?

Anyone out there tracked a roadster yet?

I was just wondering if the stock roll bars will cut it in the Roadster, as my local track has this in their rules.

"Functional factory or "pop-up" roll bars are acceptable such as Porsche Boxter or BMW Z3 with owners manual that confirms that they are "ROLLOVER PROTECTION" not "Style" bars."

I would like to track it but an not willing to cut up the interior of my new Z to put in a roll bar, plus my wife would kill me...

The rules at my local track say the the roll bars have to extent past the top of the driver's helmet, so its legality as a track car without aftermarket bars would probably depend on the height of the driver.

added: It's fine for auto-x though

He was actually going the other direction. The cones were wiped out in the spin!

The cones that are laying down are what is know as pointer cones. They force you to go around a single cone in the direction that the tip of the pointer cone is pointing

The short answer is that it is track and coordinator specific. Some places are more lenient while others will say 'no pop-ups for roadsters, full cage only'. You'll just have to feel it out and do your homework before signing up for events.

There are clubs and tracks out there that will let you run as long as the car has some type of roll bar, regardless of its design and function. With that, of course you have to ask yourself how much risk you're willing to take by tracking a stock roadster.

As an event organizer, I don't have enough info on the 370Z roadster to approve it for my events. To do that, I need a couple things:
  • A technical drawing or schematic of the structure of the roll hoops. This will help me determine it's structural integrity and integration into the unibody. Something like this drawing of the Porsche 987 Boxster:

  • Pictures of you in YOUR car with your helmet on... demonstrating that you could pass a broomstick test
