Does anyone know if and when the 370z will make it into the Grand AM GT class? 350s are legal though I haven't seen one race in a long while.

370z in Grand Am GT?
Does anyone know if and when the 370z will make it into the Grand AM GT class? 350s are legal though I haven't seen one race in a long while. I'm not real familiar with the rules, but how competitive do you think it would be against the RX-8s, M3/6 and GT3s that seem to win every race.
Thank God Time Warner added the Speed Channel HD

Yeah, I know they are purpose built, but they look more or less stock and they do carry over some of their stock attributes .. e.g the RX-8s seem to be better on shorter technical tracks. I'm just wondering whether one could build a competitive 370 for that class.

Yes and the 350s run the 4.5L Infiniti 4V .. at least according to the specs sheet on the Grand Am website.
Clearly if they can run a 350 in the series they could build a 370 for it (although the "370" designation would be a misnomer given it wouldn't be running the 3.7VQ). My question is has anyone heard of any teams planning to do so?

Actually though, in the last couple of months I've been watching the races I've yet to see a 350 or G35 although they are technically legal cars for that series. Perhaps neither body style can be made competitive in that class....

From what I can tell Nissan is no longer focusing on running factory teams but instead gives a payout for winnings to privateers. This usually means that a team will have to come up with the money themselves and hope to be reimbursed if they are successful.
The only US team road racing team that they are supporting with larger exposure is the Brass Money GT-R in the World Challenge series (broadcast on Versus): |

I have also been waiting to see any race teams in Grand Am, Super GT, Super Taikyku (spell check) plan to run any 370's. I have seen none to date.
Good question Zaggeron. |

Times are tough right now, especially in low budget series like Speed GT. I doubt you'll see too many teams wanting to spend the money to move to a new platform vs. stick with what they have.
NISSAN really needs provide support if they want to see the cars out there running, which I don't think they really do at all. But if you look at manufacturers like Ford, Mazda, and Porsche... they offer lots of support to teams running their cars.

That Speedsource RX8's are amazing machines. If 3-rotor 20B's were on the street going version, I would have considered buying it instead of a 370z. Just not enough power with the Renesis. It would be cool to see the 370z race agains the other GT cars. Way too many Porsche teams running. It was nice to see the new Camaro's running though.

Porsche is so popular simply because it's an awesome platform with great factory support. But yes, it does get annoying seeing so many of them!
