NT-01 vs BFG R1 vs Toyo R888
Anyone have experience in them? I have experience in R888, I hated it and I refuse to get them again. I just want to see how the BFG R1 and Nitto NT-01 compare to it in terms of life and grip? R888 can easily heat cycle out long before the tread wears down, what about the NT-01 and the BFG R1?
Thanks |
R1 is more of a "full face" R-comp.....treadwear of 40. It isn't really a fair comparison. The R1 (BFG) and R6 (hoosier) are a better comparison.....which the hoosiers win hands down IMO. The NT01 is a fine choice though. Same compound as the RA1 (toyo).

I have a set of NT-01 for this car and I have used the R-888's on other cars. The NT-01's have more dry grip than the R-888, I like them a lot except they howl at any speed over 40mph. As already stated you can't compare the BFG R1 because that is a low treadwear full slick.

RA1 is a tire that stays consistent until they cord. R888 basically turn into garbage before treads wear down. How does the NT01 compare, is it coser to RA1 or R888?
Thanks I cant carry 4 tires in the car, so R1 might be out of the question |
NT01 is the same compound as the RA1. Only difference is in the tread block design.

I have only bought used race scrub R888s, so I can't really say how they last, but I am currently using the BFG R-1s. Sure they aren't quite as nice as Hoosiers, but they are a lot cheaper and last a long time and do have a lot more grip than the R888s. I've got at least 4 track weekends on this set and they haven't lost any grip and still have a bit of tread left on them.

Out of the 3 the r1's should be the most grippy. This is because there are only 2 circumferential groves on the tread so its almost a slick. nt01s feel pretty grippy but they are the same compound as the r888.

Scuff R888s are garbage, I used them and they sucked. The RA1s can go till they cord |

+1 for NT01
R888's look great but they are too loud to daily imo. Just like A048's if you decied to daily drive on them . BFG R1's as everyone already mentioned are in a different class. |

I did it on the RA1 for years in my 350 where I drove 10 hours to and from track. The tires performed flawlessly until they cord. THe garbage R888 would die out before I even wear down the treads. I just want to see if I would get something like the RA1 with the NT01 or performance of the R888. 10 hours might be too much to do on the R1, but I just want to see if there are any first hand experiences. I am not trying to street drive it, I just have to drive the car to the track since I can only carry 2 max at a time. I would install a small hitch if they weren't so expensive.
I used the R888 on my Corvette and RX-8, absolute garbage |

I don't really agree with some of that chart above....the r888's don't seem to be any faster (perhaps even slower) than the older gen NT01 and RA1's. Also, need to add star specs to the street tire list.

thanks for posting that chart
