Stock 370Z Auto California Speedway Dragstrip
Decent day at the track with my completely stock 370Z automatic. The temp in Fontana was hotter than I thought it would be today at about 80 degrees. The bite was fair but not great.
I was happy to get a solid baseline with my 7AT while it was completely stock. 13.3 @ 105 - 2.08 60 foot 13.4 @ 106 - 2.10 60 foot If the temp was 70 degrees when I made my best pass I think my car would have reached its maximum potential which I feel would be. 13.2 @ 107 - 2.00 60 foot I feel good about the 370 because my friend who went with me who has a lot a drag race experience has a 2010 SS Camaro Auto with intake and exhaust and he ran a 13.5 @ 105 with a solid 60 foot 2 passes in a row. There was another SS Camaro and it also ran 13.4 at 106. Another 370Z went to the track with us that was a Manual Transmission with berk Exhaust and High Flow Cats ran 13.5 @ 104 but the printer messed up and did not print his time slip. He did have another run 13.7 at 103 that printed but his 60 foot on that pass was 2.29 which is a little high. The other manual 370Z with intake, exhaust, HFC in our group had traction and shifting issues and never put down a solid run. I am installing a CBE at Amplified on Tuesday but I think I will stop there until there is a really good tune which may not come around for many months. It seems air mods especially on warm days don't make these cars faster and when you add long staging lines and warm weather may even slow them down. I also wonder if one air mod equals 15HP 7TQ and 2 air mods equal 18hp with a loss of torque. Overall the Z did not disappoint |

Great to see more Z's getting out to the drag strip and nice times representing the 370Z. Its nice when you take your car to the track to find out it really competes with V8's like the 2010 Camaro SS. I haven't had the chance to race a 2010 Camaro SS but have beat a few modified 2005-2008 Mustangs, one with test/cbe/intake/tune/gears 4.11 this was when I only had HFC/SRI.
Was the other 2010 Camaro SS Auto or Manual? I need to get back to the track soon to see how my Z runs with the new CBE and AAM tune. The way the car pulls I think I will be safely in the high 12's but time will tell and the weathers getting hotter this car does not like the heat.

now something that will hurt your performance no matter what you have done is running on a car that is heat soaked from multiple runs/ long staging lines or like say driving to the dragstrip waiting 10 minutes and thinking your car has cooled off and running it. only way to beat that is to pop the hood and sit a good 30-40 min if not a solid hour and just watch and enjoy the others running. if your gonna drag race alot invest in an electric fan. they are very nice to have on those hot summer days at the strip. ESP on those long stage lines. imo those were some crappy times for the maro SS's though i havent seen to many Auto's run. do you know what the DA was? |

Camaro SS
Both Camaro SS were Automatics so they were based on the 400 HP not the 426 of the manual.
My friends with Intake and Exhaust is a loaded model so I would not be surprised if it tips the scales at 4000 pounds. The other one just had exhaust but was not loaded so it may have been 3900 pounds. Speaking of Mustang GT's another guy who went with us had a 2006 mustang GT with Intake,Exhaust,Pulleys, tune, and 4.10 gears. His best pass was 13.50 @ 104 Both the owner of the Mustang and Camaro are really good racers and consistently hit 2.0 60 foot on radials and really get the best out of their cars. Keep in mind the 370Z manual with Berk CBE and HFC only did 13.7 but could have dropped a couple of tenths with a perfect 60 foot. Surprisingly he could only hit 103 mph trap speed. He does have Nismo Wheels which are slightly wider and that could be negating the power from his bolt-ons. All of the cars did what I would expect on an 80 degree day. California Speedway Dragstrip seems to have good but not great traction and is at a good altitude for racing it just gets a little hot so I think if it were 60 degree weather every car would have went 1 or 2 tenths quicker. Review of best times Camaro SS Loaded auto 13.5 @ 105 Camaro SS Less Options auto 13.4 @ 105.8 Mustang GT Modded 13.5 @ 104 370Z Lightly Modded Manual (Nismo Wheels) 13.7 @ 103 may have went 2 tenths quicker with better 60 foot ( not verified) 370Z Sport Auto Completely Stock Removed Spare 13.3 @ 105 13.4 @ 106.9 to be exact Last edited by Tresfr; 05-02-2010 at 09:50 PM. |

My Base Z weighed 3420 when I checked it on a scale... I guess you were talking about the camaro that was tipping 4,000 lbs?
good times though.. AT are def prooving to be quicker at the stip though, pretty crazy. I went a few weeks ago , when things were certainly not ideal and didnt do even close to what I wanted but I have reasons and am confident I will get a 13.0 or better pass on Wednesday as I have addressed and will address what I did wrong, which def included running a heat soaked car. This time I have slicks and will be there plenty early. But the auto's seem to pull what I prob will without the hassle of slicks. When i was there there was a Camaro SS running 12.8 on avg, C63 a few 12.6s and one 12.4, and a hangful of gt500 shelbys which were mostly modded and all running 12.5 or better on their good passes. one ran a best time of 11.7 against me, lol with a 1.7 60 foot i believe on street tires, which is insane... My buddy ran a 13.0 fully modded the following week in his auto... And has videos of him running and beating an c5 vette and other nice cars and doing VERY well against them. He lined up with a new z06 and got a much better reaction time and also a better 60 so he jumped ahead and it took a lot longer for the z06 to catch him than I would of thought, in the video you hear the announcer say " Pretty good drag race here " and its a z06 and his smurf going at it... he ran a 13.1 to his 12.7 . The vettes launch wasnt the best 2.3 60 to his 2.0. But at the line they were within feet of each other due to the reaction time. You cant even tell who really finished ahead just by eye.
