09 C6 Vette Automatic

Guys, I need an honest opinion. I have a buddy that has an 09 Vette (automatic). He won't even entertain the idea of racing me. He says it will be a waste of his time. He's one of those vette guys that thinks a vette is the fastest thing on the road. And on top of all this, he can't drive it to save his life. I have Stillen G3 intakes, Fast Intention test pipes and fast intention cat back. I will be getting a Cobb Tuner and will have it tuned by Cobb Tuning in Plano, TX. With all this said, do I have a chance in hell at beating him in a 1/4 mile race (On a track)?

No. When all is said and done you will have roughly 360-380hp at the crank and probably around 12.8 at the track. Compared to the Vette that has 430hp and 400+ torque and is also about 100lbs or more lighter than your Z. Even if he sucks at driving and leaves TCS on he will beat you. The Vette is good for 12.3-12.4. Assuming you are the best driver in the world and he is your average driver you will hang with him the first half of the race and after that he will easily pull away. It's simple, he has more hp, torque, and is lighter than you.

Just so you have an idea my girlfriend just recently got rid of her 2006 C6 automatic Vette. Before she traded it we did a track night. Now mind you I was having problems launching with my Z but I had now chance. Keep in mind the 06 Vette only has 400hp and 400 torque. Vettes are a beast. Better add more mods if you want to play with Vettes.

Get that supercharger on there, and then talk to him, That should give you the nod.

he will make you look like your driving in reverse. and thats as kind as i can put it. they have more HP way more TQ and are lighter than the 370z.

Hmmmm..... Guys, I drove up beside a 2009 Grey Convertible C6 and as I approached his left rear quarter panel, he hit. Rear kind of sunk and a little bit of fuel smoke along with the sound of his exhaust confirmed the fact that he hit it. I had geared down before I attempted to drive up next to him so when he hit the gas, I did as well. He didn't pull me any and I didn't pull on him any. Any thoughts???

^I took a ride in my buddy's 2007 C6 Vette Automatic and to be perfectly honest, it felt slower than my Z, of course by the same token my buddy's STi feels way faster than my Z and I know my Z is faster than the STi.

The gears on the Vette are extremely tall. First gear can go up to nearly 60mph on the non Z51!

A ride isn't going to tell you much.

A C6 feels loads faster than the Z. Gobs of torque on tap at any RPM, never ending thrust... it's a night and day difference.

Just thinking about the difference in get up and go between a C6 Z51 and my Z... wow.

I have never driven a 'vette so I can't comment but I do know that those LSX engines are BEAST! Absolute monster! Also, when I had the camaro, I used to hear that many LSX engines are underrated. Meaning, they put out more that what the spec sheets said. Like many 'vette owner will go to dyno straight from the dealer and leave with a much higher HP/TQ than they are suppose to have.

I don't see why you can't have a good, friendly run. Is he your friend?

Yeah, the Vette will probably take you, but like AK asked, what's wrong with just a friendly run? My friend wants to race me (he's got a v6 2010 camaro), and he even said he knows he'd probably lose, but really, its just for fun and to see how they'd do side by side.

I'm aware of the fact that a ride doesn't mean ****. I was just simply stating that if his buddy doesn't think the Z is fast based off something like that he should give it another shot rather than just brush it off thinking that "its not worth his time" thats all I was getting at.

heh not to be mean but either he was goofing around or short shifting if he was a manual and still goofing around.

but just to kinda put a end to the argument and be a buzzkill this will kind show you the difference in the vette and the Z

found another that did 12.2 something at 118mph but you get the idea heh. the c6 vette is in a different league. and one of the best bang for the buck cars you can get used.

pbpd4816 03-24-2010 02:33 AM

Well, I've rode in my friends vette and I feel that it is overrated. And about it being in another "league".... Ahhh, its definetely in a different "price range". Its a 6.2 liter engine with 415 hp. Our engine is a 3.7 liter as you all know. Real close to being twice the cubic inches but only 20% more power? Not impressive numbers to me. Its a nice car but not worth $55,000 in my opinion. And about whether or not the vette I drove up beside was completely in it or not..... Who half throttles their car when they are trying to show out per say? Anything is possible I suppose...
