As far as legit racing goes we have only so far auto-x. The Z kills the Camaro obvioulsy. Usually I run 3-4sec faster in the Z. Still for it's weight it handles decent. Far better than the old F-body version (used to have a 2001 Trans Am V8) but not as good as the C6 Vette she used to have. I only mention the Vette becuase the Z would still best the Vette in auto-x. As for drag racing, we haven't made it out to the strip yet. Every time we plan on it something comes up. We did do one quick pull a few months back where she surprised me off a start. She punched it already rolling in first and a split second later I punched it but already rolling in 2nd. She immediately pulled a car length on me but that was it. We shut it down at 70mph. (on a closed track out where we auto-x) Basically if I had to put odds on which car is faster I would give it to the Camaro. On paper it's the faster car with lower ET times and higher trap speeds. Driving the car it feels faster than the Z. Launching the car is far easier than the Z. Honestly I think anyone who pulled on a newer Camaro was facing either a crappy driver or someone who didn't want to push their car. I've known lots of people with performance cars that when faced with a racing situation won't actually push the car to it's limits for fear of breaking it. One day we'll actually make it to the strip and I'll post the results but I dread the wheel hop. |

^ the Z's arse does hop around, i hate it. The worst is when you hit a bump during a high speed turn and it skips out on you. Scary. I got my Swift springs yesterday so I hope to take care of that problem, hopefully.

Car and driver said the Camaro does the 1/4 mile at 13.4. Isnt that what the Z is about? i would think it would be a good race, since I would figure the Camaro would wheel spin more also but either way...

Yeah but if you go to any Camaro forum all of the decent drivers are pretty solidly in the 12s. 13.4 is definitely one of the slower times for the car. It'd be like if a mag reported the 370Z did the 1/4 in 14 seconds.

13.4 is hella slow. The average mag times I've seen reported are 12.9-13.1. The average for the Z is 13.2-13.5. Also if you look at any mag and compare the Camaro to the Z you will statiscally the Z is always slightly slower. Meaning that if C&D got 13.4 on the Camaro they probably got 13.5-13.6 for the Z.
And again no, the Z has more traction issues than the Camaro. Dispite the fact that the Camaro has skinnier rear tires and inferior traction ratings compared to my Nismo. And it's not due to the suspension of the NISMO because my previous touring/sport Z wasn't any better. |

My brother has the 2010 Camaro SS2 and we have run them (my Z his C) many times. Stock, we were DEAD EVEN before I went to my TT setup. Now with the TT stage 2 pkg its not even close.
I dont suffer from the "wheel hop" others are talking about. This could be because my car is a 7AT?? I dont really know. |

Ive had a similiar scary experience. Please let me know if your springs help out with that. I was thinking a better strut would help more though personally. Shoot me a pm when you install though if you could.

Also I thought the Z was BS class, at least that's how we run them. Not that it matters to me as I'm not out there to compete for a trophy Last edited by 280z/300zx; 06-28-2011 at 09:11 PM. |

Due to the change in weather condition, a direct time comparison might not be ideal. Still, SS cars lay down faster times most of the times at the tour. There is a reason why SS cars carry a much higher PAX than CS. C5 non Z06s are AS cars. At this point, C6 probably won't take home a win. Still, the car was fast enough to finish in the top 5 at the tour a few years back. I would have finished in the trophies in a C6 had I not kicked cones on the last turn in day 1 (i am still pissed over that). Corvettes are not easy cars to drive, it was part of the reason why I gave mine up. I completely agree the 370z turns in better and they are much easier to drive. Faster? Hell no.
I have one raw FTD in my Prius and none in my C6 or 370z. It's all about luck and who is driving that day. Autox is weird like that. Quote:
