NJ Motorsports Park Winter Autox series #3 March 6th (pics/video inside)

Yesterday, me, onethreefive and alefcole went to this awesome Autox event at our local track NJ Motorsports park. This was my VERY first Autox'ing event. It was a lot more fun than I have expected. The turnout was GREAT! I believe 70+ people showed up.

Here are some pictures:

Alefcole's beater Honda civic Class: HS. BTW, he's got an E92 M3 that's coming from Munich in couple months!

My 370Z Class: CS. Now, I have been told that 370Z is in BS class. So, I signed up as B Stock. But upon arriving at the track, they told me 370Z has been moved to C stock? That was confusing ...

Overall, we had a great time. This is the last event for this series. Maybe we'll attend other local Autox series in near future.

Great vids AK. That looks like a lot of fun.

Looks like you had fun! Just need to work on getting turned in a bit earlier. I know for your first time out it's hard enough just trying to figure out where to go, refinement comes later :)

agreed. I guess I'm not too coordinated following cones (2nd run I went ouside arrow cone in one turn :icon17:). It was a lot of fun though. Also, I took it easy since I still need my lug fixed.

Do you AutoX regularly? any video?

Yeah pretty regular, think I did 14 events last year in the Z. Unfortunately no video of my car yet. Best I can do is show a video of a typical course setup.

Good to see more people getting out there and autoxing! And glad to hear you had a blast, I love autoxing.

Here's a vid of my first event of the year in the new car I'll be co-driving (first time driving it!) And I had top pax and just shy of top time of day.

14 events in a year is awesome! Are you looking into buying GO PRO or something similar? I love watching videos or Z in motion. Whether it's Autox or HPDE, I don't care ;).

Awesome! Don't get discouraged just keep it up.

I forgot to bring my go pro today and it was too wet for the JVC.

Nice videos man. Almost lost control in the first run :driving:. So, do you keep the VDC on or off?

Has to be off, no question. You'll get used to controlling the car while sliding around, that comes with experience.

One of the common mistakes that novices make is that when the car starts to slide they lift off the gas, this causes 2 problems. 1) It creates a sudden weight transfer fowards, causing your to lose grip in the rear, which was obviously already in short supply because you were sliding, and 2) if the slide was a power slide (you were spinning the tires) lifting off will cause you to suddenly regain traction causing the car to more than likely snap back in the opposite direction. You will learn to modulate the throttle in order to modulate the rear traction and allow grip to come back progressively.

I should have video this year!

IMWEZL 03-09-2010 02:37 AM

I run with the VDC and SRM off. That was one of my first runs with the car.

To all the new guys that came out to this event. Be sure to go to some more events. Sometimes it takes a few times to get hooked. Check out the schedule at AutoX4u.com. There are tons of clubs in the area with varying levels of competitiveness.

I figured I'd post a video of one of my runs. I just couldn't get my act together and made pretty big mistakes on every run. I was also on some very old NT05s and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't turn in early enough to make the tires happy. In another couple weeks I'll have some big fat hoosiers mounted along with a big front bar and an alignment, so I won't be able to try and pin any of the blame on equipment :)
