Want opinions on Drag radials
Alright gentlemen, I just bought two 17" gloss black gram light 57 Pro wheels for the drags, wanted to get some advice on a good drag radial, so far i'm considering the Nitto NTO5R's Nitto NT05R Drag Radial tires - Reviews, ratings and specs in the El Paso Area - Discount Tire/America's Tire And the NT555R's Nitto NT 555R Drag Radial tires - Reviews, ratings and specs in the El Paso Area - Discount Tire/America's Tire
Thoughts, opinions, alternatives would be greatly appreciated.

Something I found on another (Mustang) site:
Well as you know I'm running the Nitto NT555R. I've got about ~5,000 miles on them with a few track days. I figured they would of lasted me a little bit longer though. I don't baby them really but they are always at optimal tire pressure on the street and the track. I figured 8,000 miles. I've only got about 3" tread on each side of the tire. The center is completely slick. However, I love these tires. I used to be able to mat it with 524 rwhp and barely spin in first on the street. Can't tell me that's not insane! It's an amazing street tire for a high hp car but you better be okay with only getting slightly over 5,000 miles on them. I'm going to get a pair of Nitto NT05s for the rear in a few weeks at most. My car is a real daily driver. According to what I've heard the Nitto NT05s are the best street tire out right now. I've heard the traction is not that much worse than the NT555Rs but the tread life is double! I'm planning on getting a set of dedicated 15" wheels with slicks for the track so this makes the most sense for me right now. Tread Ratings: * NT555R - 100 * NT05 - 200 * NT555 - 300

Let us know how these work for you. I'd love to have some DRs but I'd be scared of snapping something.

I have a buddy with a 600 hp 04 Cobra. He pulls 1.70 60ft on the stock suspension (history: Cobra IRS was a hack job) with 555r. I think that should be good enough proof. I havent run anything other than that. Always been happy with them. Extremely sticky.

I think the NT05's and NT05R's are completely different tires, take a look at this contact patch and tell me you'd like these for daily driven duties, haha, especially if it rains!

Haha... I would never drive around with those. I'd just swap them out at the track.

Exactly, every track day (if its clear), i'll just swap the back two out in the garage, drive the 5 miles to the track, do the deed, get home and then swap em back in the morning, hence why i'm going with DR's and not slicks. Thanks for the input gentlemen, I was leaning toward the 555's, but what I like about the NTO5R's is that once all the tread is gone, they act like a slick, I could probably get more life out of them.

do you think our axles are strong enough not to snap when that rush of torque hits?

with the right suspension you should be in the 1.5-1.6 range with these tires you might try to fit a 15" rim on the back to give you more tire. I don't know how big yall's rear brakes are though. Heck even 17's would benefit you.
