I've read to the end of the thread, so I know that the transmission is no longer the topic at hand. But this post interests me.

Can you attribute your 350's transmission longevity to something in particular? In addition to being a DD, my 05 g35 has seen well over 300 passes down the drag strip, in addition to other forms of vehicular entertainment. I haven't been able to powershift 1>2 above 5k rpms for a couple of years now, and I also cannot shift into 6th from any position without grinding.

Did I just get a **** tranny?

^ well over 300 passes + other abuse and you're wondering if its the transmission's fault?

No, those things you can't do are due to the abuse, synchros are probably messed up to hell. The transmission in our cars ins't designed to withstand that much abuse, they aren't race transmissions.

Nor are they designed with a factor of safety of 1

Not to mention the condition of the shift forks. The OP is a clown, a liar, and a child. Am I making myself clear on this?

You get enough wheel spin with normal shifting at redline, why would you want more wheel spin??? Power shifting will equal a slower time...

I will challenge you at this. What stakes do you choose?

You dont do it on cold, wet roads In high traction environments it works out fine.

This car has less then 300rwhp... Its not exactly a wheel spin monster.

The only thing I attribute it to is it has been taken well care of in the sense that I am very careful to not grind it. Your 300 passes might be more abuse than my trans has seen... I run decent size/sticky tires on it (currently 305 r888)... but I have less then 20 passes with super sticky tires and drag strip launch attempts. I am pretty lucky that after all these years over 500rwhp that my 3rd gear has not separated yet like it has for many members. However, my synchros are rather great in my 350z with the exception of 5th gear... i get a little "Scratch" into 5th when I shift it quickly.

You could probably credit that my car has had a twin carbon clutch for almost those entire 6 years. The lighter components should help the transmission shift. Normally the ultra lightweight flywheel contributes to helping a quick shift because the engine will decelerate much more quickly... but there is no engine deceleration taking place when you hold the throttle to the floor.

I find it rather humorous that people are so concerned about powershifting.... I would love to see the look on some of your faces if i did it in your car. i hold my right foot on the gas, dead straight on the floor as if i was balancing my body weight on it... i hold my left foot about 1 foot in the air.... just as the rev limit is kicking in, i bruce lee jab-kick the clutch peddle to the floor... some coordinated time after i felt my left foot begin to make contact with the clutch, i begin to yank the shifter with a "no looking back now" effort (cant afford one of those accidental half shifts) and by the time the shifter is done moving my foot has left the clutch and you usually only heard the rev limit bounce once if at all.

If you are drag racing your Z, the only thing that you MIGHT do differently is briefly let off the gas peddle. But when you shift quickly enough, you will start to see that its hardly worth the extra attention when, if you are fast enough, the engine never had a chance to decelerate anyway. The only difference is the little extra grunt when you powershift... shifting hard is what wears out the trans... the difference in wear when i shift hard between letting off the gas or not letting off the gas is negligible... im already doing most the damage... and this is when you DO NOT want to mess up or you might not make it years like I did. I havent focused my automotive career in building transmissions, so perhaps a transmission specialist might say I am putting a lot more wear into them... but from where I stand, its been negligible, as I have yet to break any transmission. So they last long enough for me!
