Vortech supercharger track experiences
Greetings,
I recently had my Vortech V3 leak and fail while tracking my car. So I need a SC rebuild. My setup is a Topgunz/Stillen kit detuned to make upper 400's whp. I really only have done maybe 5 track days and have only done about 7/10th driving as I've been setting the car up from street performer to track reliable (haha). I'm getting mixed information from Vortech indicating I should be using an externally lubricated version, or even a V1 with a heavy duty bearing and straight-cut gear (loud!). It doesn't seem logical that external lubrication would help, since in my case I would have been ingesting relatively unlimited engine oil into my intercooler/intake. Also not sure on the oil temp argument for internal vs external oiling, since track oil temps are pretty hot (200-220). What has your track experience been supercharged?? Thanks! |

I have the same issue with Vortech V3. I had the Topgunz ACE kit and it failed after about 6-ish track day. I change the SC lubricant every 2 track days but it didnt help.
The real issue with Vortech V3 is the lubricant capacity is very small. During any track session the SC unit gets extremely hot, the lubricant will over heat and eventually cause the bearing and seal failure. I think the Rotrex SC would be a better option for track use as it has an external oil cooler for cooling the SC lubricant. |

SC
Yes, I do like the kit Rotrex kit Z1 has put together. I'd prefer not to make such a complete swap though.
Vortech is saying I should swap to a V1 - but the whine of the straight cut gears makes that a no-go. I'm leaning toward a V2 with engine oil circulation. |

V2 is the way to go. It doesn't have the oil slinger that's prone to failure also

Why don’t you do the top gunz rotrex set up. Jonathan wheeler has been running it for time attack and hasn’t had any issues with the unit so far
