Cooling mods for forced induction
I've read a bunch on track cooling topics but I have some specific questions I was hoping to get some expert opinions on.
I have a 370Z with 600whp Topgunz kit and am in the process of de-tuning for a street/track car. Hopefully I'm not chasing my tail like I tended to with my previous 240SX/SR20DET track car. Oil cooler: Currently have a Z1 25 row behind the intercooler. I was thinking about adding a second on the passenger side (with bumper venting) in parallel. But was wondering about possible oil pressure issues. And seems like the oil would just primarily flow through the cooler with the least resistance anyway. I could also just swap current cooler out for 34 row (simple). Or go with a single cooler on passenger side and re-think the washer reservoir (not so simple). Other plans: Swap in a larger intercooler to replace Topgunz V1 A2A intercooler. Reasonable? Swap for CSF radiator. Worth it? Of course I'll be re-tuning with a conservative track tune. Wouldn't mind adding a boost controller, but I'll at least put the larger 8lb pulley back on. Thanks gents for thoughts. |

I have a NA track only Z. Most guys have their oil cooler where yours is and have oil temps that still run 260+. Mine is located where the windshield fluid
reservoir was and my temps max out at 200. It is critical to have direct ducting to the cooler and then have good space behind the cooler to create good air flow. I have a 40 row cooler. |

Remove the WWF reservoir, get a chase bays WWF reservoir, it fits easily in the engine bay, that is what I have, was very easy to do this swap to free up all that space.
Then relocate oil cooler to that spot with proper ducting and venting. yes, bigger the intercooler the better. yes, swap to a bigger rad. WMI will also help a lot with overall temps especially IATs. Hood venting reduces temps a lot too, this is probably a must for track spec FI. |
