Yes class record. My competition was all E36 M3's and STi's. The STi put up the best fight but I was still nearly 1.5 seconds faster. I had to run with an absolutely completely full tank as the light bulb turn (as they call it) has you pulling 1.4 lateral G with full acceleration for quite some time. And my fuel gauge broke, it now reads 1/2 tank always.

cossie1600 08-03-2011 09:15 AM

lol price of winning baby, good job. your time would beat the record at our club too, good job!

That's a pretty amazing time, nice job Chris... checking the nasa tt records, you'd have the course record for TTB, close on TTA and TTS

TTU 969 Michael Ellis C6 Corvette Z06 1:10.0 4/17/11
TTS 34 Troy Schoenmeier 06 Mitsubishi EVO 01:13.6 5/29/10
TTA 21 Thai Diep 06 Mitsubishi EVO Hoosier, Motorsports Performance Group 1:13.8 4/17/11
TTB 296 Andrea Cairone BMW M Coupe AxisOfOversteer.com 01:15.4 5/30/10

ChrisSlicks 08-03-2011 03:51 PM

Thanks guys, I was very happy with the result. Now ... if I could take out 300 pounds of weight to get down to what Travis runs I think I could match that TTA record :) This winter the car is going on a diet.

cossie1600 08-03-2011 04:15 PM

what can you do to your car while keeping it tta legal?wouldnt a set of slicks and suspension and basic intake exhaust already put you near the limit of tta?

Not a NASA expert but from what I read you can take out just about as much weight as you want to reach the power to weight ratio. I'd take a lighter car over any power adder, suspension is a must for me, especially if you run DOT slicks. I haven't run with NASA yet so I don't have to worry about it. Travis's car was TTA compliant and he's done a lot more to it than me!

COMSCC is closer to the SCCA rules where there is a specific list of things you can and can't do for each class. I should have been in Street Touring but get bumped to Street Prepared because the brakes are not OEM in origin. Heck I've still got stock seats! Really need race seats as trying to stay in your seat while pulling 1.4G is tricky.

travisjb 08-03-2011 05:34 PM

Don't want to take us too far off topic here, maybe we should make an unoficial NASA classing thread somewhere... also, has been discussed here http://www.the370z.com/members-370z-...tml#post748660 ... bottom line for me, I got Greg the NASA TT Director to re-establish my base class based upon a lower weight and a specific whp. That allows me to not take points for power and weight modifications because they are already built into the base class he assigned. Make sense? Discuss on my journal if you like. -T

That's a pretty good time for an all stock car.

you are a novice, you will beat me next time you go.

chris, i was actually disappointed because everyone i know runs in the teens. i felt slightly better once i realize the glen is a cornering track, not just hp track like all the idiots who told me. i dont think i am cracking the teens with the car the way it is with me driving. i will check with the wife to see if i can buy some r6s

My rivals will be in the teens for sure. I think corner speed will mean a lot of time at this track, but I still fully expect to be destroyed by the Corvettes and GT-R. My ambition is to run at least a 2:16, we shall see come September.

wh1te370z 08-09-2011 09:42 AM

i know you said i could get in the teens but its gotta be high teens. my buddy in his gtr did a 2.11 w slicks. i want to go back so bad and get in the low 20's or the teens.

cossie1600 08-09-2011 09:54 AM

oh yes, mid teens for a modded 370 on slicks is definitely doable. without the slicks, i was getting eaten alive in all the long sweeping turns at the gle. i also have to lift for the esses while everyone can go flat out up the hill. i knew i was in trouble when i saw a 135 blowing by me in the turns. i dont plan to go back unless i have slicks on the car

the only way you can beat the c6 and gtr is if you outdrive them or the c6 has crap tires. i owned a c6 and i can tell you it is a lot faster than the z. gtr is just crazy talk.

wh1te370z 08-09-2011 09:59 AM

only time i lifted in the esses was goin into turn 2. i lifed for like 2 seconds then floored it through turns 2 and 3, shifted into 5th right before turn 4. its def scary running flat out through there.

cossie1600 08-09-2011 12:23 PM

Actually I just rechecked the logs, maybe the car does have 2 teens with just RE11 and pads and a faster driver. On my last session, my optimal time (taken from all the splits was 2:20.16) and with the S/F at the backstraight. I was only able to get the 2:21.9 as my best lap though with the normal S/F.

What was your top speed? Mine was about 125-127. I am just going off my memory here. I short shifted slightly for T2 into 4th, I also have to lift for the left hander after, I then carried the car up the hill in 4th until I reach near the end where I have to grab 5th for a split sec. You do have smaller tires, so your gears are probably shorter than mine.

Here is a graph of the speed and the long. G (accel and decel)

Alright so Berk used to update this thread but they have been super busy and haven't been on here much at all so I am going to re-start this thread under my name so I can update it more frequently.

Here's the new thread...

Thanks Mike!

cossie1600 08-09-2011 12:57 PM

Sorry to hijack the thread, but it's always good to hear about people's track experiences since there aren't many 370 out on the track.

Oh yeah, my VIR time is 2:17 flat, don't short change my .1 sec hehehe just kidding.

Well someone needs to read the original post....:stirthepot:

"Any lap time not given in the thousandths will be substituted with 9s. Example: 1:28.3xx will automatically be 1:28.399."

on the back straight i was getting a little under 140 on my speedo (i think) but it was a little slower bc of the rims and tires. but i didnt check my speedo every lap. i was to focused on trying to get through the bus stop. i had a problem being consistant on following the line coming out of there.

Hey chris what club are you going with in september?

I've have 2 sets of tires, one is shorter than stock, the other taller, so the speedo isn't particularly accurate and you can notice the difference in gearing.

I'll be there the 12th & 13th with COMSCC. If you're serious about learning they have some of the best instructors in the region.
http://www.comscc.org/events/
You can run 1 day or 2. Time trial is in the afternoon of the 2nd day and is optional, but is a lot of fun if you have never done one before. They then go to open track format after the time trial until track close at 5/5:30.

i am going off by memory, but i think you would be about 10mph too fast on the speedo if you have the 285 30 18 at 140mph.

Suggest we lock this thread so that content moves to the new one Mike started

Reminder here: http://www.the370z.com/track-autocro...ml#post1252403

ChrisSlicks 08-09-2011 02:37 PM

Should we keep discussion in this thread so as to not clutter the other one?

travisjb 08-09-2011 02:38 PM

No!

Kidding... do as you please, of course

... but FYI I did drop AK a note suggesting he close this one

ChrisSlicks 08-09-2011 02:45 PM

And hopefully he will sticky the other one.

As a student it would have to be Monday. The 2nd day is for solo drivers only. Theoretically you can drive home that same night, it's about 5 hours or so for you?

wh1te370z 08-10-2011 10:30 AM

I got moved up to solo at the glen when i was there so i could run solo on tuesday. it took us about 5.5 last time, but that was in a huge rig. it would just suck waking up for work the next day haha

With COMSCC you have to get solo'd at each given event until you get licensed. Once you are licensed then you are good to go solo anywhere. Need about 4 events with them to get licensed.

cossie1600 08-10-2011 10:51 AM

4 events really? no exemption from other clubs?

Yes if you have lots of experience from other clubs then they will probably just require a brief check ride to make sure you are safe and then cut you loose. I think they also accept a NASA or SCCA license.

wh1te370z 08-10-2011 12:37 PM

yea its 4 events to get your license ive looked into that. if i can make it monday that would be awesome. ill see what i can do

cossie1600 08-10-2011 12:48 PM

I would like to go, but I will probably save my money for LRP in August instead. Of course this is pending on slicks and getting my stupid car back.

wh1te370z 08-10-2011 12:50 PM

what happened w ur car?
