Track Day Tool Box

Ok, I have a bad habit of taking too much for a track night / weekend. So I want to work on having what I need, but not having a lot.

Making an assumption that all the Z would need is Metric tools. So here is my list I am putting together...

Track Day Tool List
1/2" Drive
12 point sockets -- 16,17,18,19,20,21

3/8" Drive
12 point sockets -- 10,12,13,14,15,17
6 point sockets - 7,9,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18
Deep sockets -- 12,13,14,15,17

1/4" Drive
Deep 6-point -- 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13
regular 6-point -- 5,6,7,8,9,10

1/2" breaker bar - 24"
1/2" Torque wrench

Wrenches - 12 point
Stub 10,12,13,14,15
regular 6,7,8,9,10,12,14,17,18 (set 1)
regular 8,10,12,13,14,15,17 (set 2)

Hex keys/Allen wrenchs variety
Rivet tool kit
duck tape
painters tape
Jumper cables
tie downs
zip ties
oil
brake fuild
funnels
individual super glue packets
paper towels
micro towels
cleaners variety

I do not own a impact wrench and wondering if it is worth or necessary in picking up a 1/2" drive.

Also missing from my list is pliers / screw drives, that is because I have not gone through all my tools yet.

Wow, props for taking the time to actually catalog your track tools. I just can't bring myself to break up sets so I bring a lot of unnecessary tools.

Don't forget jack and pinch weld adapter. Maybe low profile ramps to make jacking easier. Brake bleeding bottle with hose. Picks and lights should also be added to the list.

Definitely get a cordless impact. There are a ton of options and price points. My first was a used snap on I got cheap. When the battery died the second time I went to Dewalt as I already have a bunch of cordless Dewalt stuff and plenty of spare batteries. I have lots of fiends all with different brands, from harbor freight to the truck brands they all seem to get the job done.

I've been supremely happy with the Ridgid cordless tool line. The Octane tools are very powerful and affordable, and their lifetime warranty on the tools and batteries is icing on the cake.

This high torque impact is a beast

Don't forget spare brake pad set and clips, needle nose pliers, air pump and pressure gauge. Extra Nissan pop-clips are handy too. I also have a tire trailer and Tool box mounted to it. Less crap to carry in the car. I drive my car to the track with tires and tools in tow.

Having a choice of impact and electric screwdriver type tools is a labor saver if nothing else. I have the Milwaukee impact driver and drill driver combo. Bring heavy duty gloves and hand cleaner for the times you will get greasy or covered in brake dust.

I like your socket set choices. I would offer bringing the 6pt impact selections of your choice when you pick up the impact driver. I bring the 19mm and the 21mm for wheel nuts and spacer nuts. At least these are the ones I need.

I bought a Home Depot 250 piece mechanic tool kit for about $100. It has everything you need and you won't be mad if you lose or break any of the sockets because they have a lifetime warranty. Besides some of the other things mentioned I did not see a 1/2" torque wrench and breaker bar. Also necessary is an air compresser and jumper cables. It you have extra wheel studs take them too. You can run on four but I don't recommend it. You can change a stud and not miss more than one session. Ask me how I know!

Been working on this and putting it in a list and test packing the car.

I just show up. If I break. My day is finished anyways, because it will be something that I can't fix at the track. Then I call AAA to come and get me.

Get an impact. its made life SOOOO much easier track side when i need to do anything. Plus who wants to wrench on a lug nut outside in the summer... not this guy!

I love my Rigid. They come on sale all the time at Home Depot. I see a lot of them at the track besides the other major brands.

When I was racing and doing track days with a bike. I packed enough to do a complete rebuild. Over the years of doing that. I found out out that I hardly ever touched the tools at the track. It was always someone else needing something. If you do your prep work right. You really shouldn't never need them. Unless you switch tires at the track.
