Hey guys, after some research seems like a lot of track guys suggest 275/35/18 because of the wide availability. Is there any disadvantages going 305/35/18 on my NA Z with 10.5” rim? Slows down the car in the straight but better cornering?
Thanks |

You want a square setup over a slightly wider tire to have the best handling. Putting a noticeably wider tire in the rear is just going to create a lot of understeer. Also, last I knew 285's are the width a lot of the track guys are using.

Unless you’re turbo’d that much tire seems like overkill
And fitting that much tire will require more camber and fender work

I run 275/40/18....
I do not see any value in running anything wider than 285 on the track. Beyond that you are just adding more un-sprung weight for no value.

I currently run 275/35/19 and 305/30/19 on track. I still run my stock sway bar on my Nismo. The car is fairly neutral. Slight understeer if any on aggressive turn in, slight oversteer if I'm running out of grip.

I run wide tires because I am boosted but I know of a few serious track rats that are really fast that run 315 square N/A. I think if you are fast it is what you comfortable with. Most run 275 35 because of cost and class restrictions depending on time attack rules and class. I think a lot more folks would run wider tires if not for those two considerations. Also a square 295 30 works as well.

If you're running really wide fronts, I recommend getting a letter power steering cooler. You're going to work the hell out of it.

I run 275/35R18 on 9.5" Enkei for wets and 27/65R18 Michelin Slicks (actually Porsche Cup fronts) on 10" Braid Forged. Alternative slick is Pirelli 285/655R18.
Square all round makes for better balance - Unless you are boosted and running mega torque, I'm not sure that anything bigger than 275/285 provides a benefit |
