2010 Redline Time Attack Schedule
Buttonwillow Raceway March 26th, 27th, 28th
New Jersey Motorsports Park April 10th – 11th Las Vegas Speedway (Outside Road Course) April 23rd, 24th, 25th Auto Club Speedway May 29th-30th Autobahn Country Club June 12th – 13th Willow Springs Raceway July 2nd, 3rd, 4th Spring Mountain September 24th, 25th, 26th Tentative Infineon Raceway October 23rd-24th Auto Club Speedway November 12th, 13th, 14th They are working to secure 2 additional Eastern events, for a total of 11 Nationwide events in 2010! One of those east coast events will most likely be in Florida. I am guessing Sebring. I will be at every event in 2010. On the west coast, I will be driving for Berk Technology in their BMW 135i time attack car. On the east coast I will be there hanging out and writing articles on the event for Redline Time Attack. Hope to meet a lot of you out at the events this year! 2010 Preview Video...

wow, some big names on that list, sadly the two that were closest to me aren't on the list (yet), CMP and Nashville. i got to know some of the crew from RTA during last years events, if they need any photography coverage for an event (due to a mixup on their main photographer's info, they used my pics for the CMP event last year) please encourage them to give me a call!!

All of the licensing fees and what not are in the rulebook which is available on RedlineTimeAttack.com. If I remember correctly its like $75 for the year. Entry fees I think will still vary between tracks. Each track has different rental fees. Transponder rental is usually $30 or free if you are competing. Thats based on last year, but not sure on this year.

The schedule favors the west coast. I am hoping this doesn't kill some of the interest and turnout on the east coast due to the track schedule.

Sad truth is, East Coast events have a MUCH smaller turnout than west coast events and RTA usually loses money on them. In reality, the East coast is getting the same number of events they did last year and the year before. The west coast just had more added. Hopefully the attendance doesn't drop at all on the east coast, otherwise they will pay less and less attention to it as the years go on.

It also makes it difficult on the east coast guys to have 1 event in NJ, 1 in Illinois, 1 in FL (assuming), and 1 somewhere else. Even to compete in the east events we usually have to travel 12+ hours to at least half of the venues. The guys up in NY,NJ, and even VA and MD are not likely to show up to a FL event. Likewise most FL,AL, and GA guys will not show up to NJMP. This is a large reason for the smaller turnout on the east coast events IMO. The West coast guys have it much easier having the majority of the events in Cali. Sure Cali is a large state and I'm not by any means saying it's a short drive to make all of the events. However, having more events grouped together in a closer range allows the same cars to make more events. This will always result in a larger turnout. Furthermore to be competitive in the points race we will have to make several trips from Atlanta, GA to either Cali or NV. This takes 95% of the East coast competitors out of contention, hardly fair. Just my 2 cents. |

I get the concerns for east coast teams, and they are warranted, but RTA has to cater to what is working more than what isn't working at this stage in the growth of the sport. It definitely better for west coast teams, but thats life. The sport is just much bigger over here.
I know A LOT of the east coast tracks wont let RTA host events at their facilities since they aren't big enough or for whatever other reason. I am sure eventually as the sport grows and gets more and more attention major tracks in the east coast will become available and then they can hold events that will better suit the east coast. The east coast is the mecca of the US for professional road racing. Just look at the GrandAm/ROLEX schedules to confirm that. Hell, North Carolina is the motorsports capitol of the US. Eventually RTA will get big out there, but its not this year. As for points contention. Nobody is forcing you to build an Unlimited Class car. The rest of the classes have separate east coast and west coast championships. If you choose to build an unlimited class car, you have to work travel into your budget.

I believe even Modified has 5 oportunities which means we have to make at least 1 west coast event. This was the case for 2009. This is of course also assuming RTA does book 2 more east coast events. We have 3 cars as of now which will be competing and probably 2-3 more customer cars as well. I completely understand RTA reasoning for scheduling more west events. However I believe it hurts the east coast attendance by having all of the tracks so spread out. I understand not all of this is RTA's fault and that as you mentioned some of the more prestigious tracks are making it difficult. I just find it hard to believe that everything possible is being done to spark interest in the east and to give us the best chance to improve attendance.

Actually, good news for you. Just looked at the 2010 rules again and all classes will have separate east/west championships. All east coast events, no matter how many of them there are, will count towards the east championships. No west coast events will count towards east coast championships.

That is good news
That takes that part out of the equation. Lets hope there is more interest in 2011 and we will have some better venues. Thanks for looking that up |

Believe me we are trying. We are hoping to have at least 3 if not more of our customers at every event. Hopefully they are willing to make the long haul to NJMP and Autobahn.
