Sad first trip to the track

1 Attachment(s)
Like the title says, I didn't have a good first trip to the track with my 2012 Nismo.

My best time was 14.56 @99.9 with a dismal 60 foot of 2.58. Launched at 2,500 RPM.

Blew the tires off on the 2nd run. Launched at 6,000 RPM :icon14:

I made a better 60 foot of 2.28 on the 3rd run but let off the clutch to fast and grinded second gear.:driving: resulting in a 14.63 @97.1. Launched at 3,500 RPM

Running cat back GReady exhaust, K&N intake, aftermarket flywheel (not sure brand or type) and Ohtsu 285/35Z R19 FP8000 on the stock Rays.

Track temp was 90 degrees with 70% humidity, at sea level. (No problem raceway in South Louisiana)

Even with a bad 60 foot I would have though I could get under a 14 second 1/4 mile. What are everyone's thoughts?

Practice, practice, practice...

Yeah basically seat time and tires

Are you lowered at all?

No, factory suspension and ride height.

On a side note, what do you think of the Greddy exhaust?

SS_Firehawk 07-31-2019 09:32 AM

You're tires probably aren't doing you favors either. It's an older tire designed from the last decade as a Falken fk452. When I say last decade, I'm talking about 2007ish.

It is really fricken loud at 70-80 MPH!!! I cant wait to get this turbo set up done so it will be quieter :yum:

Roger that, I will burn those tire to ground in a drift session after I finish up with my turbo install. Then I will buy some up to date tires!

I bought a set of 18” wheels and a pair of MT ET Street in 285/18.

Really helps to sort out the starting line technique.

Seems our V6 is really picky about staging rpm, and shift timing.

A sad day is one where you cant drive the car back

Just wondering if your 6spd or auto and hows the wheel hop on the track?

SG4247 08-15-2019 07:37 AM

Ive got a 7AT.

Wheel hop was problem, until I installed whiteline poly rear diff bushings, and replaced that leaking rear crossmember fluid filled mess.

I altered the pinion angle slightly also, when I replaced the bushings.

That's also how I feel about camera equipment.

Yeah or maybe a bent wheel or a blown engine/trans

I was thinking the same thing a bad wreck it happens more than people think better not get caught not having track insurance. Could have been worse for the OP. Practice makes perfect and you can’t replace seat time it is what forms a driver.

:iagree: I have my time in the oh **** that is going to cost me $$$$. I ran off road and broke front endlink that resulted in blown front shock/strut and then on the infamous day last November when my motor went boom. Yep those were sad days at the track and my Z is still has no heart!!!

I will share some pics ASAP! Car will be back home in the next couple days, I have been doing nights 7-7 last two nights plus one more tonight which has thrown things off a little coordinating etc.

I will do my own look over and provide pics.

My motor/tranny are both probably done...….. and I am looking forward to the rebuild, in my sick twisted mind I am excited! Meanwhile close friends and family thought I'd be heart broke or super bummed etc. NOPE!!! Bigger and better here we come!

Rusty 10-23-2019 04:40 PM

I was the same way in my youth. Blow a motor, build the next one bigger and faster. My Dart when from a 340, to 440, to a 440 based 572 ci monster. 4 motors in my TransAm. The last one was a LS7 454 Cbevy big block create motor.

I was the same way when my motor let go. People were like dude I am so sorry...that sucks big time! I was like well I knew it was going to happen at some point as I have been boosted for five years. I ain't mad at it!!!
