370z Time Attack Build (PIC HEAVY)

Hey guys,

I finally made the plunge to stop being a vagina and track my Z. My car has always been a "show" car but the last year or two I've lost all interest in both my car and just cars in general....until I started going to time attack events. Long story short, I got into a car accident and decided to rebuild the car to race-spec and prep it for full track use. I'm no professional so I will take everyone's opinion and advice into consideration. All updates will also be posted on my instagram: @Z34_Motorsport

Below are pics of what the car looked like before:

The teardown begins:

Got rid of the shitty overexpensive Fly1 fenders and decided to get my OEM fenders custom fabbed.

More progress:

Mocking up some brake ducts on the new front bumper. Can't decide what size to go with. The first is 4x6 and the second is 5.5x8:

Finally got the brake ducts and ducting done:

All body work complete minus the vinyl wrap:

Finally got the car back into my storage unit. Started the teardown again. The first thing I did was take the wheels off, rip off the suspension, install my mishimoto baffled catchcans, and begin my header install.

Once I dialed in the suspension and got the headers installed, I started with installing my new front Whiteline swaybar. Then moved to wiring in my gauges and neon underglow :stirthepot:

Once I had all that finished, I ordered a Stage 3 Zspeed clutch kit and installed that with a HD CSC!

Going to the track is a bad deal, you have now entered the land of no return! Looking forward to seeing your project come together and forget about ever being done!!!:tiphat:

Looking to do both. I'll be ready for the first event in springtime. Looking to have some seat time before the big summer event out here in the midwest - Gridlife.

Get yourself a 3 ring note book. Make it a thick one. Start writing down everything you do. At the track. Alignment settings, air pressure, before and after, tire condition, track temp, tire temp before and after, air temp, humidity, sunny or cloudy, you get the idea. Because somewhere along the line. You will run into something and your notes will help you.

Very good advice. Much appreciated buddy. I’ll definitley be doing quite a few trials till I get everything in check

I still have my note books for each of my motor cycles that I raced with from years ago. :icon17: They have each track the bike been to, suspension settings, air pressure, tire info, lap times, changes made. I have one for the Z, but it's not as detailed because I'm not chasing lap times hard. Just out and enjoying myself, trying different things and going fast. :driving: When I get a full blown case of the Race Bug. I'm a bear to be with.

You originally from GR? I saw that -6 and thought it sounded familiar. I had a hard time starting the other cars over here on the east side of the state this morning

Went with Autocraft. The owner is a cool guy and allowed me to source parts myself so it'd be less cost. He was really willing to work with me.
PS. I still want that head unit but I'm broke unit spring! :icon17:

Just stop over and pick it up, pay me whenever you can, no rush. Looks like they are doing good work.

Welcome to the dark side. Good to see more people coming to enjoy driving their cars.

Jmatchley86 04-22-2019 10:39 AM

Welcome to the fun zone!! Had to leave the hard parked crowd too. Question about your quick release on the bumper, what is it attached to on the other side? I'm needing to do this due to rubbing on the bumper mounting tab now that my wheels are wider in the front.

As usual i did a thing and now must do multiple other things to make the first thing work.... oh well
