Default Wild Horse Pass Bondurant Course

This past Sunday second session HPDE3. My buddy wanted me to get some video of his 2014 1le Camaro. He is 485whp/432tq and I was running on Map 2 488whp/454tq. You can really get a feel for the low end torque of the v8. I could not use 2nd gear in the slow turns as the torque comes on too strong and I end up spinning the tires so I stay in 3rd. In the time attack competition he prevailed by .02 keeping me off the podium.

Both me and my partner in crime were told by the group leader that we were done in group 3. LOL! Time to play with the big boys and girls.

If you're not HPDE 3 or better, don't read this. My comment is for Hotrodz and not meant for HPDE 1 or 2 beginners.

I always want to see the Zs be faster, so I will tell you what most HPDE coaches won't. Especially with your level of power, you need to actively "set" the car much quicker so you can get back on the gas hard(er). You have very smooth hands, which is good for HPDE, but on the exit of many corners you should snap back to straight as soon as possible. In HPDE it feels good to maintain those lateral G forces while you unwind, but to beat the clock you'll need to be more aggressive.

Takjak2 thanks for the advice as I believe you are spot on. I have worked really hard at being smooth and not upsetting the car and feel that I am efficient at that part of the game and as you noticed I lack speed coming out of low speed corners. It is my next area of focus as I know I am leaving quite a bit of time out on the track.

Thank you sir, I really appreciate the compliments. My brother call me a late bloomer because I did my first track day a year ago this September. I a young 57 and having the time of my life. Lots of great inspiration here on the forum. One of the guys I hang with is a 72 year old instructor the drives a c6 Corvette. He was last years TT Big Bore points champion. He said I "can't go as hard and fast as the rest of the field but I never miss an event. I just love being on the track." I put my arms around him and said; I want to be like you when I grow up. I though that was pretty cool and we both had a good laugh.

As Steve McQueen said..."Racing is life, everything else is waiting!"

Wow very smooth in your steering inputs, hope to get this well with steering, although as mentioned, you struggle with power delivery, I feel the track is a little bumpy and this is a factor

When you get into a rhythm where everything seems to slow down. Then you know you're going fast.

I'm still trying to figure some things out being boosted. A couple the turns I should be down shifting to 2nd gear, but I stay in 3rd because I spin in 2nd gear even when the r888 are up to temperature and that day the track temps in the morning were in the 50s. I actually spun out coming out of the turns after 4 laps of warming up the tire. I hit the throttle and next thing I know I'm sideways.
