Track Day Aftermarket Steering Wheel Setup
Looking for some help her from you guys on what is the best setup for someone like me. I am about 6'1" and I have lost a little over 30 lbs since July. This has led to an interesting situation as my arms are now further away from the steering wheel and I find it more difficult to turn in the wheel smoothly in high G turns. The simple fix is to move my seat closer to the wheel but if I do that my ability to use the pedals smoothly and accurately wheel be impacted and I'm not sure that I would be able to turn the wheel from lock to lock without my hands or the wheel hitting my thighs.
I know I am not alone in this and I am looking for a solution that will give me a few inches in length. I have searched and most the information is old and vague on the subject. Thanks, Bob

Definitely not alone. This was my primary problem with the Z and why i havent got one yet. I'd have to immediately find a new steering wheel thanks to the lack of telescoping on the wheel, where as its mych better on the G.
NRG makes the most affordable wheel spacer solution with a few sizes i believe. Then of course you have OMP and Sparco amongst a few others. Are you still using the Oem wheel? |

Bob. I'm 6'2", 220 lbs, with a 34" inseam. I'm more comfortable if I move my seat up and the seat back is more up-right. Also less banging on my left knee.

I agree! I also have a fixed racing seat so getting in and out of the car is more difficult because I can't move the seat back and forth. I'm going to see what happens if I go closer and if I can lean the back...back some more.

Exactly...most people don't like how close I have my seat to the wheel. Then again most people don't know how to adjust their seats or mirrors correctly!

My seat is just about straight up and down. My knee's are toast so I like to be seated with my legs fully extended when the clutch is down. The last little bit I get with foot placement and moving my ankles. If I have to sit so my knee's are bent close to 90deg when mashing the clutch, it is painful. Been driving that way since my ACL surgery on my left knee back in 1993. So I guess I sit like a taller person. I am only 5'9".

Yes it would have been nice to have telescoping steering wheels.
Ideally you do need to be a little closer with the steering wheel with elbow flexed about 30-40 degrees. Flat bottom wheels is a good upgrade. image.gif Last edited by Zoren 370; 12-31-2017 at 10:21 PM. |

My knees are as the diagram suggest and my arms are not so good...close but just enough to not be optimal.

I understand. I also drive with my legs almost extended and arms fully extendedlike a mofo! Lol But its the ideal race driver position ergonomically. I do recommend knee replacement!! Lol I'll be your therapist for free. Last edited by Zoren 370; 12-31-2017 at 10:29 PM. |
