Default Pain in the Knees Autocross Racing

I entered my first autocross race last week and both of my knees are bruised from being jammed into the door and the center console. Has anyone experienced this and have you a remedy. I am 6'4" if that makes any difference.

I also would like advice on a racing harness bar but not a crazy expensive $700 bar. I cannot digest $700 for a 48" piece of metal to attach seat belts to.

You need a race seat ............

As for the harness bar, that it what they cost ........... do not under any circumstances use the decorative bar in the car between the rear suspension shock towers .... as a harness bar.

I had one made and it cost me A$450 - you could try to get one from Australia (search site: the370z.com+BGTV8+Harness+Bar via Google to find the details, but I am not sure how much freight you will be up for to get it to the US - at least A$150). That might be a cheaper option. A$ is only worth about US$0.75 at present

You shouldn't digest $700, it is a federal offence! You will, however, need to cough up some $ if you want a racing harness. Do not cheap out on safety items. How much is your life worth to you?

Yes, knee pads turned to the outside of the knees works great. I use the knee pads that have velcro straps so that I do not have to get out of the car with them on. No one has to know that you strap up before heading out.
