Haha I saw this like a month ago from the man himself. ;)

vipor 12-08-2009 01:29 PM

at least it only looks superficial

m4a1mustang 12-08-2009 01:36 PM

Wow, that sucks.

I remember spinning my Mustang at VIR. Luckily I didn't hit anything... but it was a bit of a scare!

spearfish25 12-08-2009 02:49 PM

Found the other camera :) but :( for the car

...and this, my friends, is why I'm too chicken to turn off VDC when I'm at the track. Granted the driver's reaction to counter-steer the slide was too slow and insufficient. Easy to be a judge from a desk watching a video though. Sorry about the car and experience, but glad the repairs are going well. http://www.the370z.com/mid-atlantic-...v-16-17-a.html

I honestly don't understand why that happened. I have raced VIR many times, including working the flags at that turn, and to have him hit driver's right at that location, front first, is an akward point of impact for that turn. He should have lifted and/or countersteered, and at some point slammed on the brakes. Most spins happen down the hill drivers left. It almost looks like he had a stuck throttle or he didn't counter steer.

Awe that is aweful, but looks like the damage isn't too bad. Consider it a lesson learned. :( At least you hopefully have it out of your system.

How much track experience do you have? Who was your instructor?

Some of us who are newer to the track aren't quite as quick on the countersteer (I'll speak for myself here). I looped it at Infineon over Turn 2 on cold tires (first turn out after lunch) and I did basically the same thing. I kept my foot too far into the throttle a bit too long and didn't countersteer quickly enough when it started to come around. I am also used to midengine cars where the consequences of lifting can be worse than keeping your foot steady.

Luckily for me I stayed on track, only rolling off to let people by, but I can see how this would happen.

He was being told to trailbrake around that corner on his first track day ... that should've been slow in power out his first time there..

Needed to countersteer more and faster to try and save that.

My advice... sign up at iRacing.com and practice, practice, practice!
