Standard versus Sport brake for track day
 

I read that sport brake are not that good for track day. How the non-sport brake compares? Many thanks!

The sport brakes are fine. For seriously heavy duty track use, they just need additional cooling. Just swap the fluid and pads for moderate track use. For heavy track use, add cooling ducts. The non-sport brakes would have many more issues on track.

I've been noticing people on the Face Book group 3Z0z Z34 have been trashing on the Sport Brakes. This is coming from people who haven't had the car long enough or even pushed the car hard enough to know what they're talking about.

I would advise anyone to take opinions like this with a GIANT grain of salt and to do your research here to fact check what was said. Personally I agree with the others here, I have not had a single issue with my sport akebono brakes in both stock form or with my upgraded pads and fluid.

If you are concerned about brakes fading, switch out your fluid to a high temp solution like Motul 5.1, Brembo LCF, Brembo HTC64, Endless or Project mU.

OEM pads should be fine till you get faster but will not last long at the track compared to a pad like the Endless MX72.

Base brakes will not do well on track, a fellow member on this forum DCocci was running his base brakes for almost a year and he frequently encountered brake fade and came back to the pits with all 4 wheels smoking. I do not recommend you track on base brakes.

I run the sport brakes. With cooling ducts, Ti pad heat shields, stainless lines, 2 piece rotors, Motul 660 brake fluid, Carbotec pads. I run in Group 3 with the go fast crazies too. :driving: The sport brakes have held up fine.

Fine here. SS lines, carbotech pads, two piece rotors, cooling ducts, motul 600.

I ask because, here in Canada, the base 370Z is 30k and the model with sport brake is 46k!!!

16k for not so much better brakes.. :-(

Not much better? The sport brakes are a LOT better than the base ones.

Something does not add up. 46k is Nismo tech territory. Isn't the sport model around 35k?

You get more than brakes, you get spoiler, vLSD, nicer 19" wheels, and Rev-match if you opted for 6MT.

And maybe you have a fully loaded model and very basic model, which make the price difference a lot, for instance, here on the other side of the world, we only get fully loaded 370z with sport package.

and yes you can get better than sport brakes for less than 16k, but I don't think you can get brakes + LSD + Forged 19" wheels + tires + installation costs for less than 16k even though you may get better options than OEM :)

Yes, it's either base or full loaded. The thing is I don't need all the other bits.

I'm now wondering something... If the problem with the brake is that they are over heating, why upgrading brakes will help? Upgrading the pads and disk that better support high temperature, I understand. But how upgrading the callipers could help?
