Anyone else on here going to SCCA Solo Nationals?

Hi,
Sorry I never introduced myself, but I will be running a 2015 Nismo 370Z in A Street at Lincoln next week. I noticed a couple of other 370Zs in B Street.

I am winning local events and keeping up with the tail end of national competitors in Arizona. Here's an intro video with my Z and pics of my old 350Z.

I will keep an eye out for any fellow Z drivers. If you see me, say hi.
John

I'll be there, but in GS.

Cool, another Nismo Z!

What are you driving in GS? Focus ST?

stuy486 08-30-2016 06:53 PM

I'll be there, should be a tough battle in STU. 3 GT Academy guys in 350s, a corvette or two, and a bunch of boost buggies.

Good luck, STU is tough.

Nice job, Jeff!
2nd place behind Heitkotter!

So what problem areas did you address to take advantage of STU mods? Aside from maybe headers, cats, a tune, and adjustable camber, I can't think of anything worthwhile.

Had another great nationals driving Mark's car. This year of course Bryan didn't have a PWC race so he was there to ruin my fun, but I'm pretty happy with how I did considering he pulled the surprise HR upgrade at the last minute.

On Mark's first west course run the car sheared an idler pulley bolt so the belt came off half way through his run. It was a team effort and thanks to many peoples' help, they were able to fix the car for my 2nd and 3rd runs. Bryan graciously let me drive his car for my first run (which ended up being my fastest, but it was dirty). Never quite got to the same place in Mark's car, but was darn close, and I'm sure down to my driving rather than the car. On my fast run I missed my shift to 3rd and lost about 2 tenths coasting through to the finish . I finished day one about 5 tenths back of Bryan.

On day 2 I was able to lay down a time that was only 4 hundreths back from Bryan, which I'm very pleased with, and walked away with a 2nd place trophy (my second time finishing 2nd to Bryan at nationals).

Everything you mentioned, plus springs, penske shocks, bigger sway bars, a diff, lighter seats, lighter front brakes, 11" wheels with 285 tires. Probably other stuff that I'm forgetting... I don't own the car, my co-driver Mark does most (all) of the work.

FWIW, last year when I won in the same car we didn't have: A tune, lighter seats, lighter front brakes, and our wheels were ~2lbs a corner heavier.

Here are my runs in B Street. This was my first time at nationals. I wasn't exactly impressed from an event standpoint. I mean, if you've been to a big champ tour like Wilmington, than nationals is no different, except there are more competitors. I don't think it's worth going to Nationals solely for the "Experience". To me, it's not a party, it's a race. If I want to go party, I'm going to the beach! Having said that, if you're in the right car, and are good enough to trophy, than it's worth going to for the racing. Unfortunately the 370Z in B Street is not the right car. The 370Z can compete locally, but when you start adding so many top drivers in faster cars, you don't really have a chance.

On day 1 (west course), I drove really well and I don't think the car would go much faster yet I was still at the bottom of the trophies. Day 2 was the same, except the east course favored the corvettes even more, plus I kept making a mistake around the first feature (it was a pretty tight, 135 degree left turn). You can't have a run with a mistake and expect to trophy, so I fell back a few places. Still, even without the mistake, according to my gps data, the car was still only good for the bottom of the trophies.

In other news, I may be selling the Z, OR modifying if for STU! lol That is, if the SCCA decides to move the 370Z from STR into STU. (Fingers crossed).

Well if they open up boost for the turbo cars in ST, STU will just end up another boost buggy class.

You could always come play in ASP. Hoosiers are fun.

Yeah someone was telling me about that last night. Even now, there's no way to verify it which is a worry. Hopefully they'll dis-allow any ecu tuning.
