Brake rotor after multiple track events: Replace or ok?
1 Attachment(s)
So I have the Racing Brake 2-piece rotors, running XP-10 up front. This is what the rotor looks like. Is this fine or need to be replaced soon or now?

And..

That would worry me, but I'll leave it to the more experienced to answer.

You should be fine with those heat checking type surface cracks. I usually only worry if they are intersecting the edge of the rotor or they are longer than a half inch and opening.
Hope that helps, Zack |
The heat cracking is normal, but you can't just use just a visual inspection. Get a micrometer to measure rotor thickness in at least three areas, Then compare the thickness to minimum specs to determine how much wear (if any) is left.

That's surface cracks. Nothing on the edges. Measure the thickness of the rotor. To make you feel better. You can take a skin cut across the rotor on a lathe. Take about .005" per side off to see if it cleans up. But make sure you do not go under the min spec.
Me, I would mike the thickness to see how much is left. Then keep driving until I see bigger cracks. I have the same rotors. |
I also just noticed on the RacingBrake website that they do not recommend using Carbotech pads with their 2-piece rotors. Hmm. I'm going to measure them, but I feel better. Thanks all.
