Texas: Big Bend Open Road Race (BBORR.com)
I haven't been yet, but plan on going next month, just to see the race, and drive the Big Bend/Rio Grande area. If you're not familiar with this...check it out. serious stuff. Hwy 285 in SW TX is closed for the event, and the race is on. Each class/car runs for 59 miles each way. The closest average speed, to say the 115 mph class wins. There are many classes, from 85 up to 175 mph and beyond. Too many details for me to try to explain it here, but WOW, what a ride!

I just checked out the website... OMG!!!! I soooo want to do this, but I didn't find a mention of entry fees. It's probably in the entry form packet that I didn't click on. Definitely a bucket list item, in the 85 to 90 mph class. It looks like that class is basically stock cars, with good tires, driver equipment and relatively new seat belts.

Hey GhostVette
It does take a bit of searching around on their website to get all the info clear in your head. It's not a big time professional web design. Fees (from my memory) are $450 to enter. Rookies another $250 for instructions & qualification. $50 membership fee, etc. So about a $1000.00 bucks. Also, ???? You have to ride in one before you can just sigh up, unless you have other documented track time.
This is the way I understand it, could be off on something. I going there to mingle and watch. Spectators can not actually go out somewhere along the highway and watch, but you can be a volunteer and get out on the road. My idea is to drive roads in the area "spiritedly " and get a feel for the actual race. Cheers, |
Wow this is definitely getting added to the bucket list
