Let's talk Aero...
So as you all know, I am involved in the One Lap of America. Striving to improve the car, one of the things we are planning for the 2016 run is to put some aero on the car....and therein lies the problem. It is "officially" my wife's car and all modifications must run through her. As much as I would love one of those nice big carbon wings, that has gotten the big huge thumbs down. She does, however, approve of the Nismo wing, and says I can even get a splitter as long as I get a different bumper to put it on. As the title says, let's talk Aero.
As far as the rear wing is concerned, I THINK I have narrowed it down to either the actual (and pricey) Nismo wing, or the Evo R wing. They both seem very similar apart from the height, and the extra width of the Evo. So, does anyone know which one actually is a better Aero package? Does the extra height (I would think that is better) and width (also seems better) make up for the reduced angle of the outside "winglets"? Or do I need to go hunting for an actual Nismo wing? Opinions wanted! Next to the front. I like the looks of the Evo R front "splitter" but its effect would seem a bit minimal. I have seen the Stillen, but also have seen the droop complaints. Does anyone have any opinions on a good splitter out there? Not interested in canards...just the front splitter? I'm not opposed to making one but would need some guidance on that. So, what do you think? I would prefer not to make this a $2500 investment but if it ends up this way...it does. Trying to defend our title from last year, so we are looking to improve the car. Let's hear some thoughts! Tracy Ramsey |

I'd say make your own splitter like a lot of the guys in entry level racing seem to. I think most of the ones on the market are more for looks than actual aero.

I would get a wrecked 370 and get the hatch off it and put a huge wing on it, if there isn't rules against such things. Then make a quick disconnect plug for the wiring and then swapping from stock to race a really quick. For the front I would get the Nismo bumper and make a huge removable splitter and again just swap it on for racing.

Aero, so complicated. I think the "best oil" conversation will be solved first lol.
Can't go wrong with the Nismo front bumper. It's probably the best out there. For wing, man lots of different theories. For most of us, any rear wing that creates some downforce is going to work. There's a big difference between that and an "aero car". See a real GT4 spec car and what it does. for an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LECN8yo7jC4

Finally! A picture of that with the turnbuckles. I hadn't seen it yet but that is good to finally visualize. Thank you. This presents another option...

I love the way splitters look with turnbuckles... Hey Stillen do you all make something like this for your front bumper??

We do not make a splitter for our Fascia. The design of the fascia actually mimics the effect of a mild splitter. I have seen people add larger splitters by simply using a semi universal CF splitter with turn buckles.

Aero Anyone?
My splitter and wing are custom made carbon fiber pieces I cooked up in my garage (hint, if you can do fiberglass then you can do carbon fiber as long as you add vacuum bagging). Yes Stillen, I will consider your job offering but we need to talk salary. Remember I was the first to fabricate brake ducts (nearly a year before your kit) and the only one to have added a second set of brake ducts. Also, turnbuckles may look good but they are impractical in actual usage. Cable makes more sense because they allows your splitter to flex upwards.

I actually really like the stillen front splitter for a car that is not a "full aero" car. nice looking and functional design. Wasn't aware that the turnbuckle option was available for the 370z version(it does not mention it on the website). You may have pushed me over the edge on this one

It's light, and is has a racing transmission + sequential gear box. I don't know what the engine rules are but I am sure they didn't cut many corners there either. I know on the drivetrain alone they spent 60k+. What impressed me the most though is how that car rotates and sticks to the track. My car definitely would not hold those angles at those speeds.
