My instructor chasing a SLR McLaren

OK, this is a re-post but I think the guys in the track forum might appreciate it more.

Here is a vid from my track day last Saturday. I was riding along with my instructor Rob Robinette in a S2000 chasing down a $500,000.00 SLR McLaren. Watch as we turn onto the front straight and the SLR rockets away.

At 2:55 the ABS fails and we almost rear end a Boxter. You can hear me yell "good save"!

Good times!

Sorry that it's not in the 370Z. But the SLR is just amazing. Although the lowly Honda eventually catches and passes the Mercedes super car.

The McLaren driver was a schmoe! get him in a '96 Plymouth immediately!

Yup, nice save when ABS failed.

Awesome post, just wish a Z was involved.
That S2000 sounds awesome.

Heh - it reminds me of my first track day in the Z. A guy was there with a Scuderia, four track days under his belt. He let me sit in it (very nice) and we shot the sh!t for awhile.

One of the sessions, we got on track and he was right behind me. I thought, "Oh cool - I'll get to hear him go by!". Never saw him after the first two corners.

The Z isn't that fast, and I'm sure as hell not that fast. It reminded me for the nth time why I like track days: cars aren't everything. That said, I'm always glad people in the high dollar cars bring them, no matter how they drive, because that's where those cars are meant to be, and it's better than just leaving them in a garage or driving them out to dinner...

I did get a moment the last lap of the day where I was almost keeping up with another F430 and a GT3 that had passed me. Looking out at the view, those two cars duking it out in front of me, was like a video game made real. I had the thought: "I'm driving on my favorite track in the world (Sears Point) and I'm on track right behind two legendary cars (and not totally getting my *** whupped)." Totally awesome moment...

I was running in the novice group, and with only two prior track days (and about 6 or 7 autocross days), I picked off a GT3 and numerous Aston Martens.

In fact, the only car that I had to point by was the McLaren SLR.

That was a nice S! Coming from a previous S owner it sounded like a J's racing exhaust... looked like a J's racing spoiler too. :D

The s2katlanta group holds track days every month or so and One of my friend blew a brake line on the back straight at Lil Tally! he was doing about 110-115 mph hehe I was shittin my pants for Jansen! he saved it and didnt hit the tire wall *whew* after that we made it mandatory to have steel braided brake lines. we were avg 1:12 around the track.

The owner/driver of the S2000 is Rob Robinette. His S2000 has stock engine internals (I believe...) but the rest of the car is heavily modified for racing. It has a full cage, trick suspension, giant front splitter, giant rear wing, race tires, and custom exhaust (it was so loud I had to wear ear plugs). He used to instruct pilots for the military. And I believe he still flies commercial airlines. Rob deserves major respect.

If you ever go to a Friday at the Track at Summit Point look for the guy with the yellow S2000 and try to get him as your instructor. You will learn a lot.
