Track numbers

My first track day is coming up this weekend, and I am unsure about the numbers that need to be on the car. I have the number I need to use. I'll be doing autocross, so I don't expect to be going very fast.

How do you guys secure them to your car?

I've looked into the magnets and the static clings. It might be silly but I worry about the magnets shifting and scratching the paint.

Just use painters tape. :)

So, which type of motorsport are you going to participate in? You mentioned track day and also autocross, or is it both?

High speed autocross?? Magnetics will be fine unless they are curled. Nice layer of wax doesn't hurt.

Most autoX events in this area and HPDEs "require" at least 8" high.

For autocross I just wax the area, lay down painters tape, and wipe the excess wax away. Afterwards the numbers peel right off and you wipe the "underneath" wax right off. Hint - number "11" is really easy with tape.

For HPDE some organizations don't require them, but tape or magnets will fly off. Or not stick on aluminum anyways. Many DE organizations provide static cling or vinyl numbers at registration. I bet you could run by a hardware store and get a sheet of vinyl that you could just roughly cut into the shape of numbers.

My track car I just got some stencils and plastidip. It looks like crap but it works fine.

I have reusable vinyl numbers from soloperformance.com on my car for autoxing. When your done they peel right off and can be put back on the paper they come on ready for the next time.

i straight up print numbers in word with 800 size font. one number per sheet. then blue tape it to the car. easier than making numbers!

This is my number for the whole season. Otherwise, what a dope idea!

This guy is awesome and will get you a quick turn around if you really need it for a track day. I have a set of magnetic and re-adhesive vinyl. They last a long time if you treat them right.

That's where I got my numbers from. I got the reusable vinyl ones, no problems at 120mph. Depending on how clean you keep them they can last awhile. I'm sure the magnetic ones are fine too, but for me I avoid anything magnetic on the paint, had a bad experience with a magnetic antenna mount before scratching up the paint.

Problem I have with vinyl is once they get dirty they won't stick anymore. At least with magnets you can clean them off. I just switched from vinyl to magnets. Plan to put them on the rear fender.
