GTM Baffled pan or Spacer?
This might seem like an easy choice at 1st right? Baffled pan of course.
But when you consider that the 370 has a swinging oil pickup and the spacer kit comes with an extension for that pickup things get a little murkier in my mind. Seems like the baffling would limit the swinging pickups range of motion and even with baffles it seems like the pickup location could get low on oil in long corners since its stationary in the middle of the pan. Opinions? Observations from use? |
I've made do with the spacer since 2009 - I run R-Spec tyres on the track and have done a couple of 1-hour events and (knock-on-wood and whistle) have not yet suffered oil surge
Given your recent engine history, your choices are an accumulator or full 9-yards and go dry-sump, unless you still want to keep the car sale-able, in which case go with a spacer and accumulator (dry sump implies front timing cover mods I suspect - Brian at Valkyrie can tell you all about it). The reason I suggest a spacer is not an anti-surge matter but simply more oil in the engine equals better control of temperatures. |
The 370 does not have a swinging pickup.
I have one of the AM performance unicorn pans, with actual baffles. |

I guess I was remembering another car I worked on somehow, been 4 years since I had my own pan off. So bearing that in mind; seems like a properly baffled pan such as GTM or AMP would definitely be superior to a simple spacer solution since they also increase the capacity. |
GReddy also makes a pan for our car. I am not too well versed on what makes a good pan vs another one though. Unless I am way off, I thought the GTM was maybe just a GReddy rebrand?
Insights on this?: GReddy |
looking at some photos it looks like they are similar but that the greddy has a sort of oil "dam" for lack of a better word, built in vs the GTM has an optional baffled insert. also the GTM is an 8 quart capacity vs. 7 for the Greddy.

Well if you can find a used GTM I guess fine. But that building is all but boarded up at this point from what I hear. One guy in SoCalZ forums I believe needed to call the police to get his car back from a locked building.

yep. we are on the same page. not to mention even if I could get one from them I wouldn't give them a red cent.
just figured I'd compare and contrast for the sake of clarity. |
I've used the AAM pan spacer for about 3 years with no problems. With the pan spacer. Figure about 7 quarts for an oil change.
My spacer is for sale if you want it. |
