They ran the Bridgestones and their old RS3s back to back on Saturday, they were definitely struggling for grip on the RS3s compared to the RE71Rs, but that's probably more a result of tire age than anything, so it's tough to draw an conclusions really. It seems to me like the RE71R is much more of a contender than the RE11As, but it's not like they're running away with it because the tire is that much better.
I know. Thanks for Sharing Jeff. I have been reading that thread. The feedback on RE-71R has been positive. Heck, some were saying it acts like tires that are much much lower utqg (slicks). I even heard Sam Strano praising about these tires. And honestly at the end, lets just look at it from a unbiased aspect: Bridgestone has been showing up to Nat tours and are now doing Contingency program which is great (though no love for Pro solo ). I think they want in on the autox game and I think we should give them a shot. BTW, congrats on this weeks class win. AWESOME driving.

All the rest less then 5 each

Looks like all the cars in BS were on Dunlops, no 370's in the field.

One of the local BS drivers (Corvette) had this to say about the Dunlops on the local forum:

"A note about tires: The new crop of super-performance street tires, if the Dunlops I'm running are typical, do have more grip than ever, making them more fun to drive. And the Dunlops stick cold, so you can drive hard from the start of run 1. On the other hand, I'm glad I didn't sell my trailer. They seem to wear more quickly than last years Rivals and I suspect will heat-cycle out after a while. We may be headed for tires that will last one season locally with street driving thrown in, but probably 2 sets a year if you really do a lot of events and better limit the number of street miles by trailering to the away events."
Thanks for the input. Are you on Z2s? how do you like them? I usually never see many 370Z owners on Z2s(mostly rs3 or re-11). I also was told by someone Z2 likes light Rwd cars or awd cars. On heavy cars like Z, Z2 doesn't perform well. But yes, the statistics look VERY promising for RE-71R.

Ahhh.. it means a lot coming from you. That's all I have been hearing last couple weeks. Followed Dixie tour (which had more RE-71R) and SD tour. What made you say that about RE-71R?

Nice Jeff. wow.. everyone is on Bridgestone game! haha.. Great driving this weekend. Saw the video.. how did the car feel? I thought it was turning well?

So I'm coming to a point that I HAVE to order the tire for the Z. No more reading or fb posts or feedback. It's decision time. Though my first event is on 4/12 (will try my best to sneak in a 4.4.15 event but as of now I'm working), I want to get the Z ready. I think with all the reviews, praise, feedback on RE-71R, I'm pretty confident to order a set of 275-35/19" sq RE-71R.. lol.. Well.. unless you give me a very good reason why I shouldn't order this set, I think I'm decided. Lmk if i'm making a good decision

I'm on RS3's this year (Re11's last year). I'm very happy with the Hankook's. The couple of T&T's and at Evo most everyone I talked to that were running Hankooks last year but could not get them this spring due to availability and bought something else just to have new tires to start the year, are all saying they wish they have waited for the Re71's. Too bad the RE71 does not come in a 285/35/18 (just noticed Tire Rack had a $70 rebate on the RE71's).

Looks like the RE71's wear at a hoosier like rate though. SD is hard on tires apparently, but Dixie is note remotely hard on tires.....yet the people on 'stones are getting a lot of wear. Something like 6 runs per 1/32" of tread.

ahh ok.. RS3 lost some money bc they didn't get their stuff together.. even in NE, most clubs start late March (test tune) or event 1 First week of April. My sizes aren't available till 4/30 with a 5/3 ship date. SCCA PRo solo for NE is on 5/8 and 4 events will be done by then. Seriously, bc of their slacking, Dunlop and Bridgestone cashed in. I just bought RE-71 bc rs3 isn't available.

truth. but really what's more important? .7s faster time or 2 extra events? I'll take that fast time any day over the extra 20 runs ... haha .. I have been to an event where 1st to 5th were all within .5s. (and you've seen more close battle than me of course)

Thanks

Right now, I think the RE71R is the no-brainer best tire. There's a lot of talk still about the Rival S that is supposedly shipping in April, but we don't have any testing numbers, mostly just hearsay from a few people that got to run on them after nationals last year. Since all 4 of the national events that we're running in the STU car are in March and April, it was an easy decision for us. We'll probably have another decision to make come nationals, but we'll be able to see what people think of the Rival S before we do.

On the wear issue, I think there's no doubt that they're going to wear a bit faster than RS3s, but I don't think it's much worse on our ST car with LOTs of camber. However, on my stock 370, I'd definitely be on an aggressive rotate/flip schedule to maximize their life. I'd probably aim to have a "fresh" outside shoulder mounted on the fronts for every other event.

The OSGiken Vette guys posted a picture of a 285 RS3 next to a 275 RE71R, both mounted on 10.5" wheels. The BS is only slightly skinnier, and I think you'll find that the extra grip is more than worth it.

No need to wait, they're up on YouTube already

I posted my dirty but fast scratch time from Saturday as well as my clean run that was 1.2 slower. I didn't realize I had cones on my first run when I did my second run, then found out they were both dirty before my third run so I had to be conservative to get a clean time.
