Reputation?

So I read up on it but still have a few questions.

1. How many rep points equal a green block?
2. What is the difference between a dull green block and a bright green block?
3. What is your reputation power based on other than post count?

I believe AK has recently restructured the rep point system, due to some users abusing the previous system.

It's based on posts as well as positive rep points. You can see an icon of a scale bellow each user name in each post. By clicking on that you can leave positive or negative reps for a user. Kind of like an "itrader" you see on other forums.

Slightly OT: One thing I don't like about the Rep system is when people start asking for rep points. If people find your thread/post valuable then yeah give the poster a rep point. But don't ask people for rep points. IMO that's pretty lame.

This is exactly why the system has been redone. People are entitled to leave feedback, but please don't abuse the system.

Not to come off as an ***, but those don't really answer any of my questions lol.

There's your answer to #3. You can get positive rep points for starting informative or useful threads or if you make a post/reply that people agree with. How many points you receive depend on who gave you rep points and their rep power. For your other questions i'll ask AK.

1. Ans: I am keeping that number a secret. It'll be more interesting if I keep it a secret instead of just telling you. Let me tell you, it's not much. The more good constructive replies you post, I'm sure the more rep points you'll receive.

2. Ans: The dull smaller green block is the rep power block. The brighter, bigger and round green block in your status (online/offline)

3. Ans: Rep points factors:

For every X number of days you're a forum member.
For every X number of posts you have and
For every x number of rep points you receive from other members.

:tiphat:

Thanks, I was wondering about all of this.

AK, is there any way to see who's repped us?

NO, there is no option to see who repped you. I think vB disabled that function because you can actually give + and - rep as well. If one gives - rep about a post, they want to keep it anonymous.

EDIT: 02.22.09, actually there is a way to enable this feature but I rather keep it anonymous so that there's no conflict between members.

BanningZ 12-29-2008 09:47 AM

Is there any kind of notification for negative rep?

semtex 03-02-2009 01:55 PM

I understand the rationale for keeping it anonymous as to who reps you, but doesn't that also open the door to abuse as it pertains to negative reps? Like if someone doesn't like you for some reason, he can negative rep you repeatedly with impunity.

nogoodname 03-02-2009 02:48 PM

Yea.....true

Hi semtex,

I have the power to check every single rep you have received and given. If anyone leaves really offensive neg rep, you can just ask me to take a look and I can do so. I also have the option to turn off negetive rep but I think we are all adults here and I hope I don't have to do that.

I have politely asked everyone to be respectful to our rep system. It's a great system and encourages people with their positive posts. I am going to simply turn off rep system for those abuses the system.

Also, DO NOT leave really offensive neg rep like "Die", "You suck at life" or any profanities. I will find out who these people are and you will no longer be able to receive rep.

thanks for your cooperation.

I actually don't care one way or another about this 'negative rep' thing, but for your information I've been given 2 negative reps recently for joke posts I made in joke threads, just because some member didn't get my jokes or can't read properly (proving the old saying "England and America are 2 countries separated by a common language"). To me it just seems that the member in question may possibly be a tiny little bit up themselves (if you understand that Anglo-Saxonism) - so I reckon that the system can be perceived to be open to abuse.

I can't see me ever giving negative rep to anyone - but if I did I'd have the balls to pm the person and explain myself. In fact, I'd probably pm them instead of giving negrep, which (the more I think about it) seems to be a load of b**x, which only serves to drive wedges between people and divide the community.

Positive rep, on the other hand, is a wonderful thing to give and to receive and does nothing but strengthen the community.
