Egads! When will it end?

rAiN 09-17-2013 06:54 PM

you need to keep up with vbulletin updates,
check this for an example.
there are A LOTS of exploits out for the vBulletin Version 3.8.4

also if you had updated a new plugin onto this forum, check that out.

Baer383 09-17-2013 08:07 PM

SouthArk370Z 09-18-2013 09:49 AM

Kudos to the mods for deleting the SPAM posts quickly. :tiphat:

Chuck33079 09-18-2013 11:28 AM

They're back. Round up the posse.

SouthArk370Z 09-18-2013 01:51 PM

What is the proper procedure for flagging SPAM? Should I post a comment saying I've already flagged it? Comments in a SPAM thread (the comment will get deleted with the thread), but afraid I won't remember where all I've flagged/commented on SPAM comments. Does it make it more difficult for mods if different users flag a post multiple times? Does it really matter as long as it gets reported?

MyKindaGuise 09-18-2013 03:13 PM

reported 3 more in 3 minutes...

wheee! 09-18-2013 03:26 PM

This.... is....... insane!!!!!

ka24king 09-18-2013 03:27 PM

Ya this is getting to the point where it's hard to use the web site :(

MyKindaGuise 09-18-2013 03:28 PM

I keep reporting...but I have to leave work soon sooo.....lol

Cant our admin mac/ip ban on this forum?

SmokeEater27 09-18-2013 03:48 PM

there should be some type of a requirement for new members to enter their vins in some sort of a verification portion during registering. This way the admins can verify the vin of a new members 370z to make sure they truly own a Z and not a fictional one. And if they dont want to give their vin then let them just stay forum "creepers".. Might be a half a-s-s idea but figured id give a shot in the dark lol.

That might be a turnoff to some, myself included. Having to give up a unique identifier like that may be over the line. I'm all for some type of verification, but not anything as specific as the VIN.

Chuck33079 09-18-2013 04:00 PM

Hell, just make them post something that's not gibberish.:rofl2:

yea it was just a quick idea that popped in my head. Im sure theres probably a way better way to get true verification of a user being 100% legit. thats why i couldnt run a forum because i would probably be the only one in it :bowrofl:

SouthArk370Z 09-18-2013 04:55 PM

Another spate coming in. Mods are getting behind. :)

Edit: They're gone now!

Trips 09-18-2013 05:12 PM

Thanks guys for the patience and help.

For clarification just use the Report button, and post "Reported" so others know its been reported, and WE don't end up with a pile of reports to the same spamer.

Again THANK YOU :)

Proper procedure is (pretty much what Trips said): Report the post and post reported. This way one post doesn't get many report. Thanks. I'll post an announcement soon. Similar thing happen last year too but it wasn't this bad. It seems like every year, one specific time, this happens. I have done some stuff on the forum and I have some plan Bs. But I want to see how long this continues. If it dies down like last year, I won't go through implementing those new things as they DO require more time on my (my mods) part on a daily basis.

I really do appreciate everyone who's keep reporting. Me and the mods are doing our best to remove them ASAP and IP banning them. So, keep reporting them.

6MT 09-18-2013 08:40 PM

Zbrah 09-18-2013 08:59 PM

UruZai 09-19-2013 04:11 AM

Here comes the next wave of spam threads :shakes head:
It seems to happen more in the late night/early morning...

Rooster89 09-19-2013 04:37 AM

don't worry. i got this wave. I'm like a spamhunting batman.

I'm the Mod the370z deserves, but not the one it needs right now.

SouthArk370Z 09-19-2013 09:03 AM

The SPAMmers are posting multiple threads per account. If you click on the user's name in the left column (above their stats) of a post, a menu pops up with a "Find More Posts by username". Makes it easy to find other SPAM they have posted.

Big  to Rooster89 - he's been very busy flagging SPAM this AM. A big "Thanks!" to him and all the rest that are taking the time to flag posts.

Edit: Corrected spelling of menu option.

SouthArk370Z 09-19-2013 12:51 PM

seeaer82 has started posting comments (vs starting a thread). Should I still post a comment saying I've reported or does that make more work for the mods?

Edit: The SPAM post I found is here.

Edit2: The aaaaaNNNNN pattern shows up again.

it's hard to do much about these other than ip ban them. I was a moderator on a different forum a while back and they were automatic programs that kept registering users and posting random spam crap

I'm not an actual mod bro. I'm not even that active here any more. I just hang out in the OG conference room and sport sections.

And of course any Porshe or Mustang or z32 thread!
