Why so Many Endless Threads? not so much fun

Stats say a response will likely occur only after a limited amount of answers. TRUE THAT. If a thread goes on for numerous pages it is lost: No followers, no current opinions, no one cares, no interest. Big NO INTEREST after the 1st couple pages. Why don’t you guys encourage new posts & stop flaming or worse $hit dumping new posters? You are SO strict! Looks like an old geezer club here with no titanium parts or sparks.

Let's dissect what you just wrote. Why have threads go on with numerous pages when the answer is usually found on the FIRST page? That is what you put right? So you are proposing the idea to have multiple threads started on the same topic instead of being "smart" and using the search function to go to the original thread on whatever topic one has in mind. Furthermore if it has numerous pages one would simply have to click on page 1 to find the most relevant answers by that very logic. Thus you don't have multiple threads cluttering up the forum on the same topic. Then which thread has the best answers? Because the same members didn't take the time to respond to every single thread on the subject. Consolidation my friend. Search function: learn it, live it, love it!

Hey!!! I'm not a geezer!:icon17:

Seriously though, there's A LOT OF EXPERTISE on this forum. Our experts weigh in throughout all pages of a thread, not just the first few pages. But there's also a lot of comedy on this forum. It's kinda what makes this forum cool. Comedic relief/jokes first, then serious business later. Works for me, and members seem pretty entertained as I've seen.

If it's something I'm truly concerned about though, I read through all pages, not just the first ones. In threads like this one that I started, people digressed into much more detailed explanations in the latter pages regarding personal opinions when it came to driving habits.

Leuz 09-03-2013 11:20 AM

<Agree-disagree>
Agree: many posts go on and on after the first couple of pages with not really useful information, I normally stop following these kind of threads although I have to say from time to time new useful stuff in that post comes up after many pages.
Disagree: if people write a new post every time they have a question (let's say which exhaust to buy, how to tune the car, etc) we'll end up having tons of similar posts with always the same information in them. Also, active forum users tend to get annoyed answering the same questions over and over, and this happens in RL too :)
</Agree-disagree>
So they key here is: search first / ask after :tup:
Let's be honest, people tend to invert that ^^.

I'm a geezer and I can read and search. Hmmm.

It's so much more entertaining if you read it in Steven Wright's voice.

The first sentence doesn't make much sense to me unless I swap "response" and "answer". If I do that, then, yes, most questions get a good answer fairly quickly.

But that doesn't mean it's the only good answer. Nor does it preclude clarifications and/or refutations.

Those questions that are strongly opinion-based just naturally invite more responses. "Opinions are like a$$holes; everybody's got one."

As far as I can tell, new posts are encouraged. As with most sites, duplicate posts are frowned upon. Sometimes the frown turns into something more forceful.

From what I've seen, the only ppl that get "flamed" (actual flames are few and far between on this site) are those that have obviously not taken the time to do a little research. Show that you've at least tried to do your homework and ppl around here will fall all over themselves to show off their knowledge.

I'm not sure what the demographics of this site are but would be willing to bet that membership is slanted towards old geezers. Many younger ppl have a hard time justifying spending $30k+ on a two-seater when they have a growing family and/or just starting their career. Old geezers tend to have a low tolerance for slackers that can't be bothered to do a little searching before asking.

this is about to become a multi page thread, who wants to take the lead on posting another one up on the same topic?

I'm 59 years old. Spark that. How much is your monthly loan payment? Muhahahahaha.

Look at it this way. The more mature, sane, solvent studs are rolling a 370Z, then maybe the insurance companies will look at Z owners collectively as more than just a few pukers. I'm saving you beer money, son! Have a nice day. :tiphat:
