Houston Recommended Shops

Figured the Z34 owners need a thread like this. Seen a couple repeated questions on where to take one's Z-car. Let's keep it on track for ONLY RECOMMENDATIONS.

For me for my Nissan Parts I ALWAYS contact Kyle at Import Parts Pro in Spring first! My VQ35DE long block and numerous others parts are from IPP.

AwesomeZ off of 59 near Humble is another great shop for all your Datsun, Nissan and Infiniti needs! From basic maintenance to full F/I builds!

For your powder coating needs contact Precision Powder in Spring.

If you're not looking to powder coat and want to have a more advance coating that helps with temps and cooling contact PolyDyn off of 1960.

Chuck33079 10-30-2012 08:36 AM

Figure I'd throw Baker Nissan/Tuning up as well. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Thanks for this. I was looking where to get it done. Do they stock RedLine or should I bring it and ask?

Robert_K 11-02-2012 07:58 AM

I don't think they stock RedLine. Plus I wouldn't use anything but Nissan's Trans fluid.

VoBoy 11-02-2012 03:52 PM

I recommend ProAm if you need Redline fluids in a hurry. They're near the Galleria area, 59 and 610 (Southwest). They also stock and sell a bunch of other universal parts. Knowledgeable and friendly guys.

Thanks bro.

2nd for awesome z and pro am. Doug has helped me out on a few items and I pick up my redline at pro am and take it with. Doug does not stock redline always but can get it, just easier to take it with to be sure.

I'm not from Houston, but I have a lot of powdercoating customers who are. Most of them rely on Richey Collision for body work. They have an awesome reputation in the corvette community.

Depends on what you're looking for. Most Houston owners buy online.

FLYZ 11-27-2012 09:30 AM

So the AwesomeZ place is good for even just maintenance? I need to have my 30K service, and taking it to a dealership (Baker included) is not really the smartest choice in my book. I have had a great experience with Baker Tuning (Paul is awesome)...the actually service/repair shop, not so much.

I'm leaving my personal opinion on Baker out of here. With that said... AwesomeZ is a great all-around everything shop. They have do basic maintenance, F/I builds, track-only builds, to restoration. Last I've know they do not have a dyno nor tuning for our newer computer base vehicles.

Benadrylz 12-11-2012 10:16 PM

How busy is AwesomeZ usually? Do I need to call ahead and schedule for an appointment?

I would call to make sure.

Benadrylz 12-12-2012 10:17 AM

They said it would take 2 days to install springs/sways/rear camber kit?

They must be busy. IMO, shouldn't take more than one full day. Maybe they are saying two in case they run into problems.

Benadrylz 12-12-2012 03:17 PM

Their price quote was half of Baker Tuning's at least.

Doesn't surprise me. They are good people at AwesomeZ. I would highly recommend them.

EVS did not do my alignment. And I have heard some recent complaints about them. Not from my experience though.

With that said... I spoke with a good friend and he recommend Tomball Tinters for tint. He has used EVS in the past and recommended Tomball Tinters over EVS. Tomball is closer to me so I forward them on.

Benadrylz 12-13-2012 12:56 PM

AwesomeZ does alignment also. They're doing mine next week with spring/camber kit install.

Does anybody have any recommendations for a shop on the west side of town or galleria area to install some MD ART Test pipes without costin an arm and a leg?

J Tran Studios quoted me a great price but they are pretty far from me.

Any help will be appreciated.

I'd stay far away from J Tran if I were you. Don't need to criticize more but I've seen many cars destroyed by him. I would personally recommend AwesomeZ or Kozmic Motorsports. Tell them Rambo sent you

guru 01-10-2013 02:15 AM

ron over at jtran just did my header and test pipes install and i couldnt have been happier. he is very meticulous and methodical while he works. tune from johnny was on point. i would recommend jtran. they have worked on quite a few 370z here in town.

Robert_K 03-21-2013 07:17 AM

Just wanted to share two great experiences with Tony at Deviate Motoring in Houston. He help me with the purchase of my HRE P43SC wheels for my 2003 Nissan 350Z. And just yesterday I placed an order for a set of Forgeline MD3P wheels for my 2012 Infiniti G37S. He has helped numerous customers with getting wheels for their; Vipers, Vettes, Camaros, Lambo's, Ferrari's, and GT-R's to name a few.

So if you're in the market for some wheels give him a holler! He sells the following;

360 Forged, ADV.1, Axiom, Bespoke, Bonspeed, Boze Alloys, Cor Forged, D2 Forged, DPE, Fikse, Forgeline, Forgestar, HRE, iForged, Modulare, Modular Concept, Nutek, Rushforth, System Forged

Troll trying to get business for other shops. Ron and JTran have built more cars and bikes than both those shops combined. I've known Johnny for over 10 years and he does great work with plenty of happy customers. AwesomeZ does good work and I don't know wtf Kozmic is and Rambo...really...nuff said!

Chuck33079 04-17-2013 02:56 PM

Kosmic is the new name for SSP. Threw me off at first too.

Everyone I knew @ SSP now works @ D3 Performance Engineering, who does top notch fab work. Good to know, thanks!

Richey's Collision. Best in town.

wstar 04-27-2013 02:55 PM

What about a cage builder that can do roughly SCCA/NASA spec rollcages at reasonable rates? I've found a few random ones in the actual Houston area, but no real idea how good they are. Had a few recommendations on known-good ones, but they're all a significant drive from Houston.

D3 Peformance Engineering does great work, but its probably not cheep. I know a guy through JTran that builds off road/baja style trucks who does great cage work. You could even buy an aftermarket cage and get some one to weld it in for you. Ill be doing one of these options in the near future.

richeys seems a little far for me... any places around sw houston ? katy? or sugarland? that could do a great job?
