27000 Interstate 45 N, Conroe, TX

It's in the northeast corner of the intersection where you exit I-45 (Exit 77 - Woodlands Parkway).

Mike, is that the one where they meet on Market St. in The Woodlands?

For some reason, I didn't think that was going to be Sunday. I thought Dave was planning to do something in mid-April, hence the comments about the bluebonnets being gone.

I would think it would be kind of hard to pull something together that quickly.

And with that post, Dave just sent out an e mail regarding THIS Sunday's Bluebonnet run!

O.K…..you asked for it….so it’s happening.
With the help of club prez, Ira Foster and Matt Tuckness it has kind of fallen-together and should be a good one !
Most importantly…remember this…if it’s a screaming success…you can thank me later…but if it turns out kind of sucky…blame Ira and Matt (just kidding!)

~BLUEBONNET RUN 2012~

So here are the official plans (for now):
Official Meeting point – Academy Parking Lot at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 290 & FM 1960
http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/st...10151_10051_-1
For all you with GPS’s…it’s at 19720 Northwest Frwy.

We’ll meet kind of behind La Madeline (which might be a good place to grab a snack before hitting the road).
WE WILL BE PULLING OUT AT 9:00AM SHARP…do not call and say (in your best whiney-voice):
“David, can you wait…I’ll be there in about 10 minutes…my alarm clock caught on fire and didn’t wake me up because I hit the snooze button 28 times”.
If you want to go and are running a little late…just skip this stop and keep right on going up 290 (and I suggest at a slightly elevated rate of speed…not that I would imply that you should break the law or anything like that).

We’ll be traveling at the posted speed limit (or slightly more) and will turn right in Hempstead and go North on Hwy. 6.
We will continue on through Navasota and start slowing down once we cross over Peach Creek Rd. just South of College Station, because we’ll be exiting at:

Historical, TEXAS WORLD SPEEDWAY !
Texas World Speedway

Thanks to the incredible schmoozing power of Ira Foster, he has made arrangements for us to come and watch (FREE OF CHARGE), the day’s activities. There is going to be a driver’s education event going on with a new group called “THE TRACK GUYS”.
We’ll park and go to the elevated stand behind the pit area for a pretty cool view of the track and all of its going’s ons. We’ll also be able to wander around in the pits….but don’t wander too far…because here’s where it gets good…

At lunch time (12 Noon) they go cold-track (meaning they shut down the track), so around 11:45 we’ll line up and get to take a few complimentary laps around the track !
Yes, YOU will get to drive on historical Texas World Speedway. For some of you , this will be an opportunity to drive on a real racetrack for the first time…I can promise you…it will be VERY, VERY cool !
Now…as excited as you might be…this is when you need to be on your best behavior. Remember, we’re their guests and they’ll be leading us around the track with a pace car.

NO…we won’t be breaking any land speed records.
NO…we won’t be doing any passing.
NO…we won’t be doing any tailgating.
NO…Andretti Racing won’t be at the finish line with a contract,
waiting to sign you up because they were so impressed with your driving.

We WILL be driving around at a comfortable pace, equally spaced (no dropping back then a burst of speed to catch up), playing follow the leader around the correct “line” around the track.
We’ll probably get about 3 laps, but whatever we get…sit back and enjoy the ride !

After that thrilling part of the day, we’ll graciously thank our hosts and depart…winding through the beautiful countryside…our next destination?....Yankee’s Tavern. This portion of the trip is compliments of Matt Tuckness.
Here’s what Matt has to say about this: Yankee's tavern in Carlos, best burgers ever. There are some great twisty roads around there too. It's about 30 minutes from TWS. I can keep us off the main highways the whole time after TWS to Yankee's then twisty back roads to 1960 n 290.
Here is the map that he sent me:
Yankee's Route - Google Maps

Does any of this sound like fun to you?.....yea…me too ! 
Please do me a favor and post it out there on all the forums, facebook, etc.…help me get the word out.
No, you don’t have to drive a Z or not even a Nissan Product. We had Andrew Wilson (and Daughter) join us in his Mini last weekend, and he kept up quite admirably and seemed to have a great time. Z Club Member Danny & Karen Dodson showed up in their Mitsubishi EVO…so that shows we’ll let ANYBODY in . (cheap shot Danny…sorry).
Like last weekend, I’ll need you to show up with a clean windshield, a full tank of gas, and a good attitude.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there !
David

Loaned my Z to my brother in-law while his CTS-V is at Hennessey. I could still bring the wifes G37 sedan though. Hopefully the CTS-V will be ready by Cars and Coffee.

Me too. Hate to bail on TWCC, especially since I've never been, but that's monthly and the Bluebonnet Run is once a year. The chance to drive on TWS pushed it over the top. I got to drive on the track at Indianapolis two years ago and it was awesome.

Either way, there's a good group of Z folks going to both, so you can't go wrong.

Yeah but from my understanding everyone will be driving at a predetermined pace not even pushing their cars. I'd rather be actually racing, or even better, drifting.

I go to indy for MOTO gp races every year. I get to ride on the track watch the race and on the way home I spent a day or two in Kentucky on the most amazing back roads going to the bourbon distillery n eat bbq. Second week of August if anyone is interested. Taking the Z this year not the bike.

wstar 03-29-2012 12:31 AM

TWS is an interesting road course. Even for a few low-speed paced laps. Lots of ups and downs, blind hills, etc. And of course the big banked straight using part of the original banked oval track. It's just fun all around.

You need to sign up for a track day somewhere. There will be one going on at TWS when we visit on Sunday. You could check into it then.

Drifting was two weekends ago at the Greyhound track south of town, and Race Fuel and Red Meat was at MSR last week on Thursday. Plenty of opportunities to push your car around Houston; the Club just doesn't get into those things on a cruise. Too many drivers of varying abilities, it's unsafe on public roads, and when you add up the value of the cars present, an s-load of money involved.

Been going to the 500 since 1979. Sadly, the majority of the folks on the Board weren't even born then!

The year of the inaugural MOTO GP, they did a demonstration run on 500 race day - I think it was Nicky Hayden. I was standing behind the outside pit wall when he went by on the main straight, and it was quite impressive.

Robert_K 03-29-2012 06:52 AM

I used to skip HS to go watch practice at Indy. LOL!

And the next RMRF is April 12th: Red Meat and Race Fuel . I should have my brakes put back together by then and be out there. No instructors at this event, but it's pretty laid back open lapping if you've been out to any track events before.

You just gotta avoid events with concrete objects LOL. I like road courses where you can race to each turn and then drift the turn. Also gymkhana isn't too bad. Just kinda slow and hard to see the direction of cones sometimes.

I did, didnt hit anything but a few cones (which left some marks btw). Was super safe and then a wheel falls off. :/ What luck.

How so?

1. I was in a wreck that wasn't my fault
2. There shouldn't be massive flipping lakes in the middle of I-10.
3. ^ I was driving 50 in a 70.
4. ^ Both hands on the wheel.
5. I had a defective engine that consumed oil faster than Larry the Cable Guy throws beer back.
