Hey guys, just wanted some input from fellow houstonians.
I have a 2010 wrx and have been wanting to trade it in or a 370z since about midway last year. I've test driven it twice already, and so far I have tossed a few other cars in my mind that I want, but I keep coming back to the Z.

I commute about 2-3 times a week from Katy to UH main campus, I work only 2 miles from my house in Cinco Ranch 5 days a week. This makes commuting not really an issue, but how practical and how much of a hassle is it to really own a Z in houston? Any current Z owners recommend a different car, or a variant of the Z? (base, sport, touring, nismo, etc...)

Any input is appreciated, thanks.

The options come down to what luxury you want.
Base v Touring is all luxury, leather seats, better stereo, bluetooth, heated seats, touring gives you the option to buy nav
Sport can be added to either base or touring and is bigger wheels (19"), bigger brakes, LSD, and syncro rev match (great feature)
Nismo is basically a base+Sport but with better suspension, aero, nismo braces and badges

I DD about 20 miles to work everyday and twice a week from Tomball to UH main campus and enjoy it everyday. I can go shopping for most of my needs with the Z. Other options are the G37 (Z with a back seat), Mustang 5.0, Camaro SS.

From what I have read on the forums, it seems like the Bose system that comes with the touring is considered not the best of systems. So far what I have planned is to buy a base + sport pckg towards the end of the summer. With my WRX my first mods were all performance based, with the Z I would probably go a different route. Spacers, springs, and then focus on audio. Probably a pioneer avic double din HU and some upgraded speakers and two 10 inch subs behind the seats.

I get VPP pricing from my job, so if I buy brand new I'll do the above route. But I have found a few 2012 touring Z with 6 spd for about $32k, which is about the same as a sport packaged base with VPP. I really would like the leather seats.

Ahhhh I just want to buy one already lol. I hope to soon be meeting you guys at some meets and local shows!:happydance:

The bose is 'lacking' for being an upgraded system but that is how all bose systems are.
Base+sport is very popular, you can still mod the bose system if you want but takes a bit more (I don't have it but there are a few threads).
If you want to meet some, we host a weekly Friday meet some where different each week. Can see different Z, sit, get more info, maybe get a ride (might cost a beer).

any track events going on in the next couple of weeks??

theres a pdx at msr on the 22nd. its 3 sessions and a classroom session in the morning for $80. then the next 2 days are club trials ($100 a day) which is entry level time trials. no experience needed for the pdx but they would like some experience for the club trials.
SCCA Performance Driving Experience
a handful of people from houston z's are doing the pdx and then a couple of us are doing the club trials.

anyone know a place that's good at painting calipers

wstar 02-14-2013 07:08 AM

Mike from the boards here does an excellent job powdercoating 370Z calipers, he's done many for members here. Old link to a group buy thread from 2009 with pics: http://www.the370z.com/group-buys/72...ercoating.html , links to his powdercoating business: THEPOWDERCOATER.COM . I'd call him about it.

+1 for Mike the powdercoater
