No Front Plate

:shakes head:Got stopped by a DPS officer today. She wrote me a warning for no front plate.

I figure I will order the Stillen front plate kit b/c I dont want to drill holes in the bumper. I'm gonna wait until I get a ticket and then I will install it and see about getting it dismissed.

Front plate will ruin the look of the Z, very sad.

NFSZ86 11-19-2011 09:28 PM

I've got 4 of those tickets, but I will still not put the plate =))

300twinz 11-19-2011 09:46 PM

I installed this on my Z, am sure you can figure out a way to make it work on the 370Z front bumper:

Yep, I feel your pain. I got pulled over 4 times within the first month of owning my Z up here in MD.

007MI6 11-19-2011 11:18 PM

I was getting pulled over every six months, never got a ticket, but it still got old. The motorized bracket is a nice option, but I love my gominigo bracket.:p

nogoodname 11-20-2011 08:15 PM

Boost_lee 11-20-2011 08:26 PM

supunna_picta 11-20-2011 10:32 PM

I have this kit, works great. I also had trimmed the plate from my previous car so it is narrower. Nissan - GoMiniGo-Home of Innovative Products for your car

murphman 11-21-2011 08:40 AM

i know its the law but that is dumb, i see mercs and bmw's all day long with no front plate. I drive along side cops and when they are slowing traffic to a crawl @ I-10 getting on 45 south bound i drive by 3 cops standing there looking to write tickets but they never do anything (knocks on wood). Sometime i think our car might get picked out just because it is a sports car.

got a ticket in san antonio for no front plate on mine. its 12 dollars to dismiss it with a picture of it on your car. borrow someone's stillen bracket and take a photo of it on your car take it off give them their bracket back and keep that picture forever.

.....don't even get me started...... :( Dealer already had a bracket on mine. I probably would have put up the front plate anyway but it would have been nice to have had the option. I did, however, managed to have them NOT add the dealership emblem to the back of the car.

Sucks about the plate, I pestered my dealer daily to make sure they didn't touch my car, other than the required prep. I love my bracket. Rep for keeping those tacky dealer stickers off at least.

Omikron 11-22-2011 09:07 AM

My dealer kept it off for me. I will just deal with ticket/warnings. No nose surgery for my Z ;)

I'm too much of a rule-follower so I would have added the front plate, I guess... Besides, I drive kinda fast and figured I wouldn't need any more reasons for them to pull me over. :)

You only have ot worry about this for 1 more month. then you have 1 year where you can get away with NO LICENSE PLATES AT ALL!!!

Here's the story on how our idiotic state legislative branch has made driving without a license plate an unpunishable offence in 2012:

Texas License Plates Become Optional
Texas legislature accidentally deletes penalty for failing to display a license plate.

Texas license plateA number of special interest groups have fought over the design of specialty license plates in Texas over the past few weeks. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People cheered the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) board last month for rejecting a "Sons of Confederate Veterans" plate the group found racially offensive. An American Indian group blasted a plate honoring the Buffalo Soldiers, a regiment of black troops who served in the US Army from the end of the Civil War through 1951. These plate conflicts may turn out to be unnecessary because beginning on January 1, 2012, the use of license plates in the Lone Star State becomes optional.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, current law mandates the display of two license plates -- one at the front and another at the rear of a vehicle. Failure to comply is a misdemeanor offense punishable by a $200 fine under Texas Code Section 502.404. As part of a sweeping revision of the state vehicle code, however, that provision will soon disappear.

House Bill 2357 was intended as a non-controversial 234-page update to existing law. It passed the state House on May 29 voted 139-6 and the state Senate 31-0, receiving the signature of Governor Rick Perry (R) on June 17.

"The motor vehicle statutes were codified in 1995, but there has not been a complete reorganization of substance since before that time," Representative Joseph Pickett (D-El Paso) wrote in his justification of the legislation. "This bill directly addresses the problem of the statutes being outdated in regard to automation and organization."

As part of the update, the new law deleted the license plate statute, returning parts of it to Section 502.473 and 504.943. In moving around the legal language, the bill went through the entire legislative process without anybody noticing that a key line was deleted without providing a replacement: "An offense under this section is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $200."

Without the line, it is not clear whether police officers or courts would have the authority to impose a punishment on drivers who chose not to display license plates or registration stickers, especially in jurisdictions that still use red light cameras. Driving with a false or altered plate remains a misdemeanor, however. Lawmakers will not have a chance to remedy their mistake until January 8, 2013 when the legislature reconvenes, unless Governor Perry calls a special session specifically to address the license plate issue.

A copy of the legislation as enacted is available in a 650k PDF file at the source link below.

I haven't read the whole bill yet to verify this is true, but armed with a printout of this article and bill (assuming it's true) would get any case dismissed between Jan 1 2012 - Jan 8th 2013!!!

Also means free rides on the Tollway for all of next year for any car without a toll tag or plates! I'll kindly accept your donations in the form of rep points :p

haitech 12-08-2011 02:21 AM

My salesman asked if I wanted my front plate on. I told him no. We walk outside and someone already placed it on. Wtf. Then I told him to take it off and the bracket made dimples in my new front bumper. Sigh. Had them fill it with touch up paint and went on my way.

Splinter 12-13-2011 08:36 PM

my car already came with the plate on too :( so i got the motorized bracket and center mounted it in the grill

made a diy too Here
