San Antonio Chat Thread

I know most of us have been using an old "lets have a meet" thread to chat but, I thought it was about time we had a thread specifically for the guys and gals in SA to chat and keep up with what's going on with one another and happenings around the city.

Its been a while since we all got together so I'd like to put together a little hill country cruise and lunch instead of just meeting and standing around in a parking lot. My family has a restaurant in Kerville and there are some nice scenic roads we can take to get there. The drive will take about an hour if we drive straight there and a little longer if we stop to take pictures. The restaurant serves burgers, steak, chicken, and salads etc. so there's something for everyone.

I'm looking for some feedback on whose interested in a cruise and suggestions for a date and time that will work for everyone. I was thinking a weekend in May would give everyone time to plan for it but, of course that's open for debate. It would be nice to get more than three cars to roll out.

Also I think it would be great if everyone would introduce themselves.

For those that don't know me:

A weekend in May works for me. I think a Saturday would be better than a Sunday. I like the idea of a cruise through the hill country, I never get to go out that way. And as many 370's that I've been seeing lately, I would hope that we get more than 3 cars.

What about a meet up around 1030? Leave to cruise around 11am and get there during lunch time. Cruise back for some pics? Oh and I remember you mentioned something about running a front plate for the trip?

I was thinking about going to that Austin meet on Sunday May8th, so maybe a weekend after that? I'm game for anything though, majority rules.

Sucks about the saturday work, any way to work around it? Im game for a Sunday meet too, but I work every third Sunday, so I have to see which day it falls on. As for the nightly meets, I work until 10pm throughout the week :(

I lived in SA for around 15 years from 5th grade through college until I entered the military. My parents live in boerne now and they have some great roads out there.

We make the drive often and I have no front plate, illegal limo tint, and no cats and have never had a problem. Having said that its completely different when you are in a caravan of sports/rice/foreign cars.

When my wife had her Civic Si we made the cruise with 5 other Si's. Everything was fine for the first 50 minutes but as we entered Kerville we were all pulled over by 2 sheriffs and 1 state trooper. They said they received a call about reckless driving. I was in front because I was the only one that knew where we were going and I was going 70-75 in a 70 the whole way.

So we may want to do everything we can to avoid this type of situation by temporarily installing front plates and not speeding or driving reckless or anything else that will draw more attention or give them a reason for this.
I'm looking for an uneventful mature hill country cruise that everyone can enjoy.

It wouldn't matter how legal you guys were. Someone is always sticking their nose into everyone else's buisness. Sorry to hear that.

Yea I here you but sure cant hurt our odds. My father in law cruises out there all the time with the Corvette club 25-60 cars deep and never have a problem but as soon as they spot a group of imports all bets are off. None of us got tickets that day the sheriffs were pretty cool about things it was the state trooper that really had a problem. The sheriffs talked him out of giving all of us tickets.

Thanks! I gotta give a few weeks notice for my work. any luck on oil cooler deals?? i might just go with Z1 oil cooler.

all other z members, theres a meet on thurs night every week.

pg6speed 04-25-2011 09:02 PM

I did a DIY oil cooler setup with a 36 row cooler, hoses, fitting and sandwich plate for around $265. If your interested I can send you a list of what and where I purchased the items.

Boost_lee 04-25-2011 11:24 PM

Tony - I was going to get a used stillen unit, but that deal didnt work out. I'm probably going to piece a kit together myself, and I may use a local place that makes hydraulic lines...still thinking about it.

Yea the plate thing wont hurt our odds at all. And we can make a note on staying the speed limit and limiting the passing. Interesting story to tell though

Artomes1 04-26-2011 09:22 AM

Im also from SA I have a black 370z and I'd definitely be interested in a cruise.

On a sad note, I just learned that we have lost 2 370z owners, they both sold their cars.
