When you actualy work for a Nissan dealership, you learn very quickly the inside reputation and the stories of many dealerships. Before I was married I worked for Bankston Nissan of Lewisville and they are good people. Before the ownership and management change, North Texas Nissan, about 10 miles up the road, was very shadey and had the Texas Comission on them. I was told by someone that they would make it seem like they are selling the car when in fact they are leasing it. A woman's payments were in the 800's for a Titan that was her work truck. They had her for 8000 miles a year and by the tim she found out that she was leasing she had already racked up 15k miles. Everyone has their good and bad stories about each dealership. The worst part about the business is that its hard to make consistant money right off. The ones that usually stay are the crooks who find a way to get paid or the very few that have made their reputation as the best, nicest, most helpful people like the ones on this board.

DALLAS DEALERS ARE FULL OF GIMMICKS.
Before I bought the G I was shopping a 370z. My experiences were pretty bad trying to buy a Z. Pretty much all dealers load up the lots with NISMO and converibles. Pretty much those Z's are the years supply cuz those are the models that sell the slowest. Then they put 3 non sport coupes. 2 with manual one with automatic. The color options will be black white and grey. Then they throw in one touring sport coupe in manual at msrp. They do this cuz they are hoping you will be interested in a AUTOMATIC with sporty color and sport package. That way they can order it and feed you a bunch of bullcrap about exclusivity and charges it may cost to get your car in if you want it in less than two months. Its a transparent anal ream they do on all customers here in dallas. It was this cornball style of selling that made me walk into an infiniti dealership and see what was up?. I lucked out on a big year end sale and got the fully loaded S 7at 40k out the door. The touring sport was going to cost me 44k out the door. The G was a better buy in my opinion at the time. Though I do appreciate the performance of the Z. The dealers act like its the end all be all of sports cars. Truth is... as much as I love the Z, its not. At 40k plus, there are formidable options. Especially when you are modding. I learned you need to buy at year end or the day the car arrives on the lot. Its the only time they are motivated to sell. The rest of. The year its rapefest. |

Car dealerships for some reason just attract this type of dodgy business model, it is so common. They sit around all day with coffee thinking up new ways to bait and switch, and take advantage of people, often for the sake of an extra $500. The service departments are even worse than the sales department, we are just blissfully ignorant about what really goes on behind the garage doors. Like they fix your car in 20 minutes with a code puller and $5 part, and then charge you $450 for 4 hours of labor.

I don't subscribe to facebook. One thing I didn't want to mention in your time of frustration though is this... Grapevine's Texas Nissan, Trophy Nissan and Clay Cooley Nissan have the worst reputations in DFW. Don't just walk into dealerships. Do your research! There's plenty of blogs and rip off reports that date back as early as 2003 up until a few weeks ago. I left out the mention previously because damage was done and it made no sense to rub salt in the wound.
These dealerships are always in drama and it is in your best interest to look up your dealer options online. Its your best weapon against these types of bad experiences. Researching may not be a guarantee of avoiding bad service, but it will cut the risk by well over half. Remember you can find your car anywhere... but you can go to the dealer with a great rep and high volume sales to acquire the vehicle for you from the rip off dealer. Just some advice. ![]() Good luck and G. Bless. |

That definitely sounds like they were trying to screw you. I hate dealers that do business like that. When I bought my car, I got a phone call almost 2 weeks later saying that my loan rate had changed. They told me that the contract I signed was just a "pre-approval" and that my interest rate would go up. I told them that's ridiculous I have excellent credit, and if you give me a day I'll have a new loan prepared from a different lender. Needless to say, they called back 2 hours later saying that everything is OK and nothing on the contract will change.
I later did some research on this and this scam is called the "yo yo scam". The dealsership delivers the car and later calls you back to get you to come back in and sign a new contract. |

Ive been to the Grapevine Nissan, you are right, they are terrible. I spent about 30mins negotaiting a 370 and the salesman told me that they could only negotiate on the MSRP price of the car and that negotaiting from the invoice price was illegal. When i walked out the sales manager chased me to my car and tried the same thing with me. told me to go back in and they would give me a great deal. After another hour or so, the final total was over MSRP, because of dealer add ons and what not. I told them to go f*** themselves. I will never do business with Grapevine Nissan. But if i have some time to kill and am around that area, i will go and waste some of that salesmans time.

For whatever reason, the basic dealer business model is to screw you around as much as possible and get the most money out of you. They probably figure that "repeat" customers are a very small percent of their business, so they have one and only one chance to get your money. This however is the most bold screw you scam I have heard of. That extra $2k probably doubles their profit on the car, keep in mind, that's a big deal otherwise they wouldn't have spent so much time making the effort. I'd love to sit in on a pre-opening staff meeting at this dealer. They must work pretty hard to come up with these "honest mistakes" and confusion. They try to get you to invest a lot of time and hopefully emotion such that the $2k, primarily effect on payments, isn't worth your trouble.

ok, believe it or not I personally have made this mistake before. sometimes when we press save on the computer system, we run off and assume it worked, when in actuality it didnt.
my dealership uses the same computer system, and I constantly have to double check my vins when i sell a car ![]() so OP, i doubt they were trying to screw you, knowing that you would (obviously) notice it was the wrong color when you took delivery. Surveys are too important for something that obvious

If they didn't try to screw him, they didn't do a good job of trying to salvage the situation either. This is not the first time I've seen a dealership "make a mistake" then do a poor attempt to cover it up.
I know people are out to make money but you don't have to blatantly screw customers with bait and switch tactics, useless or high priced addons that "come with every car" or just straight bad customer service. Best thing you can do as a customer is to be informed and do research. The most trouble I've had is usually with the finance departments. If you don't come in with your own loan or paying cash, prepare to be bent over...

and they usually pull their pants down when it comes to discounting them, so get over it ![]() as far as them trying to fix it, the OP told them to ****( off, so why would they bother risking a bad survey to appease him at that point. in todays car sales world, surveys are more important than individual sales

Not every dealership has adds, the dealership I bought my Z didn't have any on the car nor did they try to sell me any. The only thing they tried to do was push extended warranties through the finance department and I expect that. I don't mind if they try to sell me something but if I refuse, they need to accept that. What does piss me off is the fact that some dealerships don't even give you a choice and expect you to pay at least a portion of this stuff that you don't want. Regular folks that don't know better get ripped off for stuff they don't even need and don't even add value to the car. It's one thing if it's from the manufacturer, but if you're going to slap on some tints I don't want or some "paint protection" that costs $500, that's just a rip. You're still defending the dealership in the OP? seriously? first of all, he said he listened to their side of the story and told them to **ck off when they wanted him to pay when they're the ones that made the mistake on the price. I would have reacted the same way. Bottom line is, there are good and bad dealerships and everyone on this forum should be informed and know what to look out for. The fact that these dealerships will never change, doesn't mean we should all just accept it.

Just read this story but not the whole thread. Wow that is such a shame!
I had an amazingly comfortable experience at Don Davis Nissan in Arlington. Of course they had stuff on the car I didn't care for such as lit door sills and mud guards but I didn't end up having to pay for them. The salesman actually knew details about the Z which I thought was amazing. I tried Bankston and Courtesy first and they definitely played all the normal shady dealership games. Felt like I was a piece of meet among hyenas. Courtesy even tried to convince me that there wasn't a Black 6MT Sport Package within 300 miles so I should just pony up the $$ for the Black AUTO Touring they had. It was about $9k more than the car I ended up finding the next day 30 miles away (black sport 6mt).
