Snowboarders- Helmet question
So I've been snowboarding since I was in 4th grade... So its been 10 years or so. I have NEVER worn a helmet, and have never been interested in wearing one. Now that I am starting to realize I'm not invincible, I am tossing around the idea of getting one, for the park especially... even though I don't venture in there very much.
Do any of you guys wear one? Is there one that wouldn't be intrusive... lightweight, not hideous, etc.? |

I have worn a helmet for about 5 years - mine is a Giro; they are very good. Smith also has some cool new ones. The helmets generally are pretty light and you don't notice them much.
Other cool thing about a helmet is a lot of them have integrated headphones into the earpieces, which you can hook up your ipod to. |

Yeah, I already have the Burton Audex jacket that has speakers in it, and a DC hat that has integrated headphones... so I have gotten pretty used to always having music. I'll look into that. Some of the ones I was looking at are "Bern" and "Red"...

I used to wear one back when I first started and I know for a fact its saved me once from serious injury. Me and my buddy were on the backside of stevens pass(WA state) and he fell...me trying to get out of the way fell and the end part of his board came slamming into the back of my helmet. I havnt worn once since I moved to the east coast cus the "MTNs" we ride arnt quite MTNs. But like you said as now im starting to venture into the park, Im most likely going to invest in one soon

I wear one when I do back country riding or when I'm in the pipe. Just normal riding or the terrain park, no.

I actually think that NOT wearing one saved me from hurting myself today.
I was riding at park city... it was just on some random double blue (i was sticking to double blacks all day) that was covered in powder and the visibility was terrible. I wasn't paying attention, and caught an edge. I flipped backwards, springing off of my head basically. My dad was behind me and said he saw me flip 5 times... I think if I had been wearing a helmet, it would have hurt my neck. Instead, I was stuck with nothing more than a nice little headache. |
