USA advances with:
(a) Win versus Algeria on Wednesday
(b) Tie and Slovenia-England tie IF England does not outscore USA by 2+ goals
(c) Tie and England loss

Slovenia advances with:
(a) Win or tie versus England
(b) Loss AND USA tie vs Algeria
(c) Loss and Algeria win as long as Algeria doesn't make up tiebreakers*

England advances with:
(a) Win versus Slovenia
(b) Tie AND USA-Algeria tie AND outscore USA by 3 goals

Algeria advances with:
(a) Win versus USA AND Slovenia win/tie versus England
(b) Win versus USA AND Slovenia loss versus England AND makes up tiebreakers on Slovenia

Note: If the U.S. draws with Algeria and England draws with Slovenia, and England scores exactly two more goals than the U.S., the U.S. and England would be even on all tiebreakers for second place. The tie would be broken by drawing lots ... aka, a coin flip.

* Tiebreaker order: (1) Goal differential in all group matches (Algeria is -1, Slovenia is +1); (2) greatest number of goals scored (Slovenia has 3 goals, Algeria none); (3) greatest number of points obtained in group matches between the teams concerned; (4) goal differential resulting from group matches between the teams concerned; (5) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned.

(Only way both USA and England advance is if both win.)

Slovenian defender Marko Suler was adamant the referee had made the correct decision to disallow Edu’s goal and accused the Americans of roughhouse tactics.

“They were pushing and holding all the time,” Suler said. “You could see it was a foul and it was the correct decision. They did not deserve to win the game. It would not have been the correct result. We were the better team.”

wow that was not a pretty game between japan and holland, but sneijder with another good strike, goalie could have done better, but plenty of pace on that one.

ashamed that afellay (sp?) and huntelaar couldn't do better, esp. ibrahim who had two wonderful chances and couldn't put it in the net.

speaking of Afellay, I hear AW is in the hunt for his signature, well, along with 50 other players.... Holland really hasnt impressed me at all so far, hopefully stronger competition in the next round will bring the best out of them, RvP hasnt really had the service or had the opportunities that he normally does, but I think a goal will get his fire goin.

Can anyone explain how Kewell gets a red card when the ball hits his hand in the box unintentionally, yet Vidic vs Germany dove at the ball and hit it with his hand only getting a yellow?

Ok. Didnt see the first half of the game so I didnt see what happened.

Just saw the replay. Still kinda find it bs since the ball was hit directly at him. its not like he intentionally did it.

Under handballs it applies as this for a red card

deliberately touching the ball with a hand in order to prevent a goal or to deny an obvious goal scoring opportunity (such as to prevent a "Breakaway".... this does not apply to the goalkeeper within his own Penalty Box)

If you watched the replay you could see that the ball was hit directly into his arm. He didnt move it into the path of the ball...it was right on his side.
