You are in the minority..............................Old timer here and I hate the sound with a passion. The exotic sounds of the engines were what got me hooked on F1 as a kid. Now 50.......................

I'm an F1 fan so by default in the majority. I will watch every race and be at 2, if not more in person. Finally we see the drivers dealing with the car again given the new motors and more torque, and loss of downforce. Sound is the least of my concerns. F1 has never been perfect. |

Sound is only one of the many elements in F1. As formula 1 always represent the class that contains the newsest and most advanced technology, and it does. Since the turbo era almost 40 years ago then back to N/A engine with small displacement but pumps out 800+hp then KERS then DRS then back to a compact turbo with KERS. instead of keep the bigger displacement engine, it is now demanding the engine supplier to come up with something with power but more efficiency with more "gadgets". it always take time to adapt to new changes and nothing is perfect, however, if you look at current F1 in the whole package, it is actually the most complicated package on technology, race strategy and driving. to be honest, it took me a while to get used to the new F1 sound, it's really like a vacuum machine, but sound is not the only thing I care in F1. I care about how the driver could make a pass, how they have to look after the tire wear while still have to fight hard and drive hard against the others, how would the team react to the situation with altering the strategy. Besides driving crazily fast, the drivers has a lot more things to look after thus they also have to drive smart. This is why I love F1. Last edited by alcheng; 04-23-2014 at 05:40 PM. |

The difference between F1 and Indy.... A HUGE DIFFERENCE....!!!
We've so many talks about the differences between F1 and Indy: cars, technologies, tracks, etc etc.....
and there's this topic, I believe we haven't mentioned/compared in here before... The trackside safety and medical support between the two leagues. and to my surprises, the differences is huge...... and when I say "huge", it IS "huge".... way back at 1989, Gerhard Berger's Ferrari crashed into Tamburello at full speed and the whole car burst into fire. If you look at the video, the Ferrari crashed into the wall @ 0:06, burst into fire @ 0:13, the medical car arrived in 20 secs, the flames was extinguished completely @ 0:37, which is 24 secs since the 1st flame. @ 0:45, which is about 40 secs after the crash, he is already been removed from the cockpit, lying on the ground and taken care by the doctors. 1994 Imola, Barrichello's crash. He crashed at about 0:03 in the video, whole bunch of marshals arrived within 12 secs, professor Sid Watkins was already beside Barrichello only 33 secs after the crash, and he got removed from the cockpit in 5 minutes and had first-aid trackside. Indy cars, nowadays, 2013, Dario Franchitti, got squeezed by Sato and his car flies into the fence and did some 360s. That happened at about 0:20 in the video, 20 secs after this 3 cars crash, you see one single marshal walking around the site with 1 extinguisher. not until some 70secs later, that marshal walked to Franchitti's car and check things out, 1 minute 30 secs later you see another marshal walked out onto the track to, also, check things out. Not until @ 1:57 mark, which is some 97sec after the crash, 1 kinda medical car(?) arrived the scene. 25 years ago, if you crash an F1 into the wall and burst into flames, you'll get rescued within 60 secs. 20 years ago, if you crash an F1 into the wall and flipped, you'll have a doctor and whole bunch of marshals right beside you within 30 secs. 2013, if you crash an Indy car into the wall, you'll have to sit in the cockpit for about 75 secs to wait for someone to look at you, and you will have to wait for a total of.... 105 secs to have someone to finally come by to try to get you out from the cockpit. different league, different people, different standard... yup, they are just...... different. |

I was going through some videos in youtube and the Franchitti's one shows up, I've never watched it before and I know this is the one which cost his career, thus I clicked in and I was stunned by how slow and little the reaction of the trackside support. Then I think about I've never seen such a low-class reaction from those in F1..... thus my post... |
