However, if the reason Stern didn't accept the trade was because of the whiny small market owners, then I agree that the commissioner was wrong in not accepting the trade. But listening to Stern's explanation, I believe he just wanted a better deal than the Lakers trade proposal.
I disagree, even if he had the right to do it, it wasn't justified. He claims that Gilberts letter to him had no way influenced the cancellation of the trade. Really? Well, how is it that only a day after he got the letter he decided to cancel the trade, when the trade was actually going on for 3 days. So in the 2 days prior, he was actually getting things ready for the trade to go on. If he is going to be influenced by such things as angry letters, then I say he has no justification making decisions as the Commissioner of the NBA.

I think his rant about this had nothing to do with influencing my decsion, I had all this planned before is all bogus. He and a certain few could not stand the thought of Kobe and CP on the same team. Point blank.

Well the truth is bitter, whether people accept it or not, that is what happened. So you're trying to say he didn't have other motives?

You can't deny that there's a bit of conflict of interest though

I'm just saying that specific article is crap because it tries to create this web of conspiracy against the Lakers by assuming certain things. The writer is being sensational.

There was conflict of interest. I agree the NBA went about the whole trade situation wrong, but in the end I believe David Stern did what was best for the Hornets. David Stern should have told Dell Demps in the beginning, "Dell you have the power to negotiate and come up with good trades, but I have the final say on whether the trade should be accepted." There was a lack of communication. Also in hindsight, "basketball reasons" was the right reason to give at that moment. They didn't want to give the reasons (lower payroll, younger talent, more future potentials are better things for a potential new owner) back when they vetoed the Lakers trade, because that would have given more leverage to the Clippers.

I agree with you, didn't read that article so I wasn't really referencing it. I posted an LA Times article on the last page that I agree with as far as conflict of interest. Whether or not Stern's decision was good or bad for the hornets they dropped the ball and information got out before a "final decision" was made by the owner/league commissioner and possibly f'cked up the Lakers franchise for the sake of another (Hornets) that brings in much less revenue to the league.

No actually its showing how David Stern has something against the Lakers...hence his trade decision cancellation

Here I quoted it for you:

Quote:
Now it gets interesting. Is there a deeper reason that Mr. Stern may harbor for punishing the Laker nation? Query: Whom does Derek Fisher play for? Answer: the Los Angeles Lakers. Hmmmm. In the law when an employer takes an untoward action against an employee who is union leader, whistleblower, or otherwise just a pain in the pants, the motivation for that action is often questionable and possibly actionable. Am I seeing a connect-the-dots painting? Is this about Derek Fisher's involvement in the strike? You remember you stated that Mr. Fisher leaked private information to the news media that were lies and also helped continue an unfair strike -- at least in the Stern opinion. Despite the fact that the negotiating team partly led by Derek Fisher was outmatched, they did not crumble. Fisher just represented the players' rights to his best abilities. It is too bad Dwayne Wade was not in Derek Fisher's position carrying out the players' desires, and then you could have attempted to get even with the Miami Heat.
