If romo was on the block, no way they get the #1 pick for him

Lemers 11-01-2011 02:12 PM

Can't trade romo directly to the colts they are expecting manning back that's why they can't take luck. But if the cowboys trade other high draft picks and maybe an established player the colts need than pick luck. Then the cowboys could trade Romo for some quality players.

b1adesofcha0s 11-01-2011 02:54 PM

Or the Colts could draft Luck and have him train under Manning for a couple of years so he will be ready to be their next franchise QB once Manning leaves.

Lemers 11-01-2011 03:04 PM

In a perfect world that's true. But in the real world why risk up setting on of the best QBs in the NLF for a further probable.

Not sure when manning's contract is up but I'd bet he won't stick around IND with the whole "when's Luck gonna take over" question coming up after every loss.

So if the colts want luck for the future they need to trade manning as soon as he's healthy.

Again all this is only a discussion if the colts get the 1st pick.

because thats how you build stability.

If they were smart and had first draft, thye would do just that

now days, you dont pay rookies 100 million contracts and are then forced to play them. you can pay them to learn and since manning is old, pass the torch and then have stability around that position for another few decades.

Lemers 11-01-2011 05:30 PM

If the colts draft luck. Manning will take it as a personnel strike against his ego and confidence. He's a franchised QB don't tell me that ego and confidence isn't in his character. It just not out there for you to see it. As far as I can tell his contract is up at the end of this year.

So it will be interesting to see a GM pet Manning's ego as youre our guy while courting Luck with you're our future

Both wondering when that is.

b1adesofcha0s 11-01-2011 05:36 PM

You're assuming Manning would be upset about it. There's also the chance that he could be cool with it and understands it's best for the team's future. May be a small chance, but it's still there.

Lemers 11-01-2011 05:49 PM

There's a lot of assumptions going on. ;)

I assumed that the colts could go winless all season. I think most would think MIA is going to have the worst record though.

But truly if you get down to it I would trade the #1 pick for a proven player that can help me now or diversify and get multiple 1 and 2 round picks of players who could be of impact the next season. Especially if I'm counting on a QB at the level of manning for the next 3 yrs.

Branford got 6 yrs & $78 million $50 million guaranteed.

Why would a team want to pay that to a player to sit on the bench unproven for 3 to 4 yrs?

Cuz it's frigging Andrew Luck who everyone is saying is the best QB prospect since Manning himself. It wouldn't really be sitting on the bench for 3 years, he would be training under Manning and learning to be a much better QB. Seriously though, there's not really anyone else who can train and teach young QB like Manning could.

Lemers 11-01-2011 06:34 PM

Ok then would the colts take the second QB in the draft if IND ends up with #2 overall pick? Which is Matt Barkley same argument looking out for the future Would they pick someone that could help the team in 2012?

Possibly. It all depends on Manning's health at draft time I suppose. Honestly, I don't know much about college football or it's players. I'm just speaking from all the articles I've read online. If Luck really is as good as everyone says he is, then no team with the first draft pick should pass up the opportunity to pick him up. What this season has shown for the Colts is that they are nothing without Manning and desperately need another good QB to back him up and replace him in the future.

Suppose Manning does come back next season and gets injured again. That leaves the Colts exactly where they are now, with no QB and a waste of a season. Of course you can argue that they could focus their rebuilding efforts elsewhere, but it's hard to be successful without at least a somewhat decent QB on your team. Put a good QB in there and you have somewhat of a chance to be good.

Lemers 11-01-2011 07:00 PM

Manning situation deffently shows you they need more than a quarterback. Colts ownership gotten lazy and has not addressed key positions throughout the team. Always banking on manning being there to pull them out. I know he's not gonna be there for ever but barring another injury he's got at least a 3 yr deal followed by a few 1 or 2 yr deals. That's a lot of drafts for the next best QB since Andrew luck to come around.

The point I was trying to make is a good QB is closer to what the cowboys need than the colts. The colts need several good starting players and a healthy Manning. Romo is healthy and right now I would prefer Manning.

b1adesofcha0s 11-01-2011 07:20 PM

I don't know if Manning necessarily has that much time left. I guess it all depends on how healthy he is and how much longer the Colts think he can play. I do think they need to be prepared in case Manning does get injured again instead of just hoping for the best.

Lemers 11-01-2011 07:58 PM

The one thing that really sucks about being the best college player in the draft is that your are sentenced to play on the worst team for around 6 years.

b1adesofcha0s 11-01-2011 09:34 PM

Yeah that really must suck. Then you have to wait as your team keeps losing and slowly rebuilds itself until you finally reach the point where your team is good. Either that or you eventually get traded :icon17:
